Meal replacement shakes...

Postby ali76 » Fri Jul 11, 2008 2:22 pm

Hi all!

I'm thinking of using a meal replacement shake for either breakfast and/or lunch but want your feedback. Are you hungry on these replacements or are they enough? Which ones have you tried and liked / disliked? Did you find them helpful? Were they effective?

My new gym now opens on the 25th August so i was thinking of using shakes for the next month to drop a little weight until I get back into exercise. Once I'm back at the gym I'll go back to 'normal' meals again but probably incorporate a protein shake to help my muscles repair themselves.

Any thoughts / feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Ali,

In the New Year I started this whole journey on Kate Morgan.

Now I still buy the Kate Morgan shakes for a breakfast item.....

They taste really nice, they fill me up, they are very quick and easy. A perfect low fat balanced brekkie.

I also add physillium as I find this really fills me up well, and keeps me beautifully regualr in the bum department.......LOL

They are $3.20 each. Every flavour under the sun available.......

My other fave is "Protein Revial" in the little tetra packs.......from the supermarket. They are about $3.50 each, very low fat, high in protein.......again, one of these keeps me going till lunch no problem.

Im so used to them now that I don't get hungry ! Sure there is a transition phase where you are absolutely starving, but after a week or so, you should be right :)

Which one's are you thinking of doing hun ?

hi ali

i tried the celeb slim shakes and lasted a few days  maybe i should have given them a go for longer, but i formed the opinion really quickly that they just weren't for me. i'm not sure whether it was the brand or just shakes in general but i would rather eat real food! they tasted fine - i liked the cofee one & the chocolate one was nice as well. since i tried them they've brought out new flavours. i think i still have a couple at home - if you wanted to try them, i'd be happy to post them to you!

i have used a protein shake (cept it's just protein powder & water lol) before - and i was using that when i had the most success in losing weight. i was having a regular breakfast, protein shake for a morning snack, salad & tuna/chicken for lunch, yoghurt or nuts for an afternoon snack & normal dinner and i lost about 15kg all up.

actually...i think i've just convinced myself to re-instate the protein drinks for morning tea

I'm not really sure...I've tried the musashi protein shakes (with water like sassi) and enjoyed them and I know they have meal replacement versions as well. Also thought celebrity slim, optifast....no idea really!

I only really eat breakfast cos I have to so dont think I'll suffer too much replacing that...if I get too hungry I might just do breakfast. I'd like to do lunch as well and maybe just have a few pieces of fruit to supplement it then of course a nice, healthy dinner..

Ali I have had the meal replacement musashi & quite liked it. They taste the same as the WPI ones. I was having them for brekky & that would get me through my morning exercise & right through to lunch time. I couldn't have more than one a day as I like a bit of variety so I would have salad or vita weats for lunch.

Excuse my blondeness, but what's this?!

Girls, I'd love to be the taste tester if you're sure you don't mind sending them to me (although I can't stomach coffee sassi - strange, I know!)!

If you can buy individual samples, maybe I'll do some testing and let you all know how I go!

Oh Ali, you're not an Ebay addict as well?? (I just scored a BNWT Ann Rice pair of swimmers for $20 (rrp is around $160!)

PM me your postal address and I will pop a Butterscotch and a Vanilla in the mail to you........they are my current fave flavours.....

physillium is what Metamucil is made of........just fibre basically! It is just ground up husks into powder (no flavour) and it is very low GI and apparently really helps keep your cholesterol low.

(I was recommended it by my GP when suffering from BAD constipation a few years ago.......it is very effective but gentle........not like a laxative)

Nah, you can get it in the health food aisle of the supermarket for about $5 for a huge bag, or from health food stores.

I have 4 teaspoons in my shake in the morning, so it lasts for ages.......
