physillium is what Metamucil is made of........just fibre basically! It is just ground up husks into powder (no flavour) and it is very low GI and apparently really helps keep your cholesterol low.

(I was recommended it by my GP when suffering from BAD constipation a few years ago.......it is very effective but gentle........not like a laxative)

can u get this from local supermarket/health food store?
do u add physillium husk 2 your shakes?

Nah, you can get it in the health food aisle of the supermarket for about $5 for a huge bag, or from health food stores.

I have 4 teaspoons in my shake in the morning, so it lasts for ages.......

oops forget my last question just read this now! should have continued reading all the post b4 asking lol

i'd definitely recommend trying a smaller tub first of all to see if you like it & to see how you go having it on a regular basis.

after my pt session this morning i went straight home & had a protein shake. my fave recipe so far - 1 scoop choc protein powder, 1 banana, 1/2 cup water, handful ice cubes & then blend for about 1-2 mins. yummy! i usually make double the quantity because my (non-exercising) bf loves the taste - it's just like a choc-banana milkshake!

I'm thinking of using a meal replacement shake for either breakfast and/or lunch but want your feedback. Are you hungry on these replacements or are they enough? Which ones have you tried and liked / disliked? Did you find them helpful? Were they effective?

My new gym now opens on the 25th August so i was thinking of using shakes for the next month to drop a little weight until I get back into exercise. Once I'm back at the gym I'll go back to 'normal' meals again but probably incorporate a protein shake to help my muscles repair themselves.

Any thoughts / feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

I have tried the meal replacement shakes twice - lots left in my cupboard still. Must have bought the wrong ones - no weight lost and more bloating etc than usual :(

If I was to go the shakes route again would use my food processor, milk, egg, banana etc and a pinch of cinnamon. And that way I will know that I am getting no pretend food or additives.

Hi - I tried several different types of meal replacement shakes (TF, Celebrity, Betty) and they were OK. My sister uses one called Becoming Healthy and she gave me a couple. I really liked them and switched to them. I think they taste great - and I have lost 15kg. On some others I found myselve very hungry between meels - but the Becoming Healthy have fibre in them and it seems to work - at least for me. As a side note - these are a lot less epensive than many of the others - they have a price comparison on their website that is interesting: *link removed by moderator* They also say if you send them an empty one of whatever you are using they will send you one of theirs to try. May be worth a try.

I am strongly against diet shakes- they teach you nothing about how to eat properly so when you stop your more likely to put it back on. And personally i would prefer to have real foods- food should not come in a powder form. If your after a nice shake, throw some fruit, yoghurt, dash of milk, whey protein and ground linceeds into a blender- gives you a great start to the day and you know whats in it, you know that the strawberry flovour in it is from actual strawberries! how can you top that

You may be strongly against diet shakes. However for some, it is very much required in order to kick start their weight loss ( under the supervision of their gp / specialist ). You don't necessarily put all the weight back on neither. You could easily put all the weight back on after being on a controlled eating plan as well.

In the end it comes down to perserverance and dedication. There is no one blanket fix for everyone.
