Shoes!

Postby snuffy » Thu Nov 06, 2008 9:05 pm

Hi Mob,

I'm 155KG and get sore feet after walking long distances (well ok 2-3km), was wondering if anyone can recommend a brand/make of shoes that are good for people my weight
Currently just been walking home from work in my hush puppies, which are comfy but dont provide that much support.

Cheers

Hmm, excellent question to which I don't have an answer. Have no idea why I'm posting  My husband was in the army and goes on and on about having good footwear. But I certainly agree (particularly as I am very overweight and my feet were never designed to carry the weight they currently do :( ). It is very important to have good footwear and look after your feet. I only have a few pairs of shoes, but they are expensive, comfortable and good quality (otherwise, my feet complain and pack it in  ). Maybe go to a reputable running shoe shop and get fitted and make an investment in a good shoe (not necessarily a brand name!) I mean a good quality shoe. I think it is worth it - but then again I could be a marketers dream.

Good luck and be kind to your feet!

I have plantar fasciitis so I need the best support and cushioning I can get while walking. In summer I like wearing FitFlops as much as I can. They provide the best cushioned support of any of my footwear, and due to the destabilising sole it works your leg muscles more than normal shoes do adding to the health benefits of walking. They've just come out with a men's fitflop recently.

Crocs are also great for comfort. I wear a pair in winter when I can't wear my FitFlops. However many people find them ugly as hell so I guess it depends on how much you're willing to sacrifice style for comfort!

If neither of these types of shoes appeal to you then Alexandra's tip would be the best advice. Go to a shoe shop that specialises in fitness shoes. They will find out what sort of support you need and recommend the most appropriate footwear to you.

Update: I just checked out the Crocs site and some of the new ones for men look quite good (in other words, they look like normal shoes instead of like Crocs!)

Footwear page: Just go to the bottom of the page for the men's styles. I think the Venture ones look the best.
Stockists: To find out where you can buy Crocs near you.

Merrells all the way. BF wears and swears by them, and at 130kgs that's pretty good.
