Cereal or Shake for breakfast...??

Postby ali76 » Sun Dec 07, 2008 7:51 pm

Hi all!

I was thinking of the regime I'm starting tomorrow....I currently have Special K with Feel Good (99.9% fat free) milk for breakfast but was going to swap to an OptiSlim skake.

What do you think is better to start the day....and help me eat less - and better?!?!?

Hhhhmmmmmm....?!

The best breakfast for me is a shake but one i make myself- is some strawberrie, a banana, youghurt, dash of milk, whey protein powder, ground linceeds all blended up- yummy yummy. When i have that for breakfast dont feel the need to snack during the mornings. Plus i am getting 2 serves of fruit which has always been my issue (not much of a fan of fruit)

I love, love, LOVE the sound of that smoothie but I have an issue with fruit....my issue is that i love it too much and HAVE to eat it during the day! My 3 o'clock apple is the best!!

But maybe if I had that for breakfast, I could eat my lunch and not need my 3 o'clock fix....

I go for cereal. It keeps me fuller longer and I like the idea of getting that extra fibre. I prefer oats, though, but I think it comes down to individual preference. Australian Special K is even lower GI than porridge because of its added protein (US Special K uses different ingredients so it's medium GI - any criticisms you hear about Special K are usually looking at the American version).

I say give each a go and see what suits you. Try smoothies for a week, meal replacement shakes for a week and cereal for a week. See which one keeps you full and also which one helps you lose weight! Some people prefer shakes, others smoothies and others like cereal. You won't know which you are until you try them all!

If you have an issue with fruit lying idle waiting for you to eat it maybe you should buy it frozen. I buy frozen blueberries for my porridge and never snack on them because they're too cold for my poor little teeth! Blueberries are great because they're packed full of antioxidants.

Both are yummy for breakfast, though I think it comes down to convenience. If you have time to sit an have brekkie go the cereal. I've recently found, I now can't live without my muesli and yoghurt first thing in the morning ! If you don't have time, then opt for the shake .. .quick and simple and you still get your 3pm fix ;)

Try the new special K that has more protein in it. It will keep you fuller longer. I find a protein breakfast like eggs keeps me going all day. Good luck
Need to get motivated.

i was having the special k advantage for ages but have recently changed my breakfast routine. i have been shaking it for breakfast. Now this going to sound strange but bear with me.
if i don't 'eat" i can last till 1pm for lunch, so i have the shake, if i eat breakfast the cereal at 10.30 i am anting food and fruit is not enough.
See which one works better for you, as long as you have something you should be fine.
And i'm the same, i can't have fruit for breakfast, i love it to much and would end up going over board, i hate having to limit it to 2 pieces a day, i have mangos, cherries and lychees in the fridge, how am i meant to limit that!!!!

Everyday when you wake up drink a glass of water..this is much better..and please drink warm water. Then go outside and take a good breath 10 times
