I think there are other threads on here about the lemon detox diet that you can look up to read. Basically, its not a good idea. The best thing for your health is to follow a healthy eating plan and get some regular exercise. Reduce the junk in your diet and drink plenty of water. You don't need to worry about "detoxing" anything either. Your body is a very sophisticated instrument - you have a perfectly good liver that does all the detoxing you will ever need!

LOL, I like that one!

I had a bit of a go at it last month. In typical me style, I decided to alter it to suit myself. I used agave syrup instead of the grade B maple syrup - because it's really low GI, with all the nutritional properties of the maple syrup.

First 4 days I lost about 4kgs, and about 5cm from my waist. Could harly believe it! But, there was barely any fat loss. I think all the weight loss was from my digestive tract (food is heavy!!), fluid and lots of it, and maybe a little muscle and fat. But yeah mostly food and fluid.

I'm now nearly back to where I started, but then I've done some serious eating these past few weeks, certainly since Christmas. I think that if I was able to have some control over my eating and had just ate normally, I would not have put as much back on. Definitley would have gained a little, but probably not all.

Anyway, check out mastercleanser.com/forum (think that's right) and also do a google search on Stanley Burroughs, there should be some info in there to help you make up your mind :)

Oh you also asked about side effects. LOL, don't expect any solid bowel movements is all I can say - you only get out what you put in

My sister has done it a few times, I tried to do it with her once and it lasted until about midday, haha I couldnt handle it. I didnt mind the taste of the concoction - basically a spicy lemonade (Well in north america lemonade isnt fizzy, so yeah its like that)
But my sister who was 15 at the time said she was going number 2 even on day 6, which is the reason I wanted to do it as weird as that sounds - it wasnt really for weight loss because lets get real here the minute you start eating solid food your going to put it all back on. I just wanted to cleanse my system because I read a lot of testimonials and reviews on it, theres also a lot of youtubes you can watch of people doing it day by day.
So yeah my sister told me some pretty disgusting things about it, like how a mucus lining from your stomach will come out on the 3rd or 4th day, and that actual solids still come out days into it. Its very popular in the US to do cleanses like that, they scare people into thinking our colons are compacted with up to 5kg of old feces and parasites - which I really dont know if has any truth to it or not.
Apparently you are so cleansed after a week or so of it that you can smell food on other people, and you have a sense of clarity in your mind. A lot of people become vegetarian after doing it and are much more aware of what they put in their body, my sister became vegan and still is to this day...
Anyways go for your life and try it if you can, theres heaps on the net about it. I personally cant do it because I felt starving midday on day 1.

Great to read the info here about people's experiences. I am about to do the Lemon Detox as I recently had live blood cell analysis testing by a pathologist and my body has all sorts of toxins and bacteria going on. I am a veg eater and count calories everyday yet I cannot loose weight! :x I will post how my lemon detox goes.

Hi All,

One of my friends did the Lemon Detox Diet a few weeks ago and was ecstatic when she lost 4kg's in only 3 days. Problem is when she finished it she put back on around 6 kgs in just 2 weeks.
It might be ok as a bit of a kick start or a cleansing as Snowflake suggested but as a long term solution I dont think it is the healthy way to go about losing weight.

Of course anyone is going to put weight back on if they go back to eating the very same things that made them fat in the first place.

I am choosing to go raw food vegan when I am done (I was 90% vegan but not raw before). I realized all the pastas and refined sugars in many vegan processed foods was making it hard for me to control my weight.

I am very positive I am going to loose the weight and keep it off this time. I also have a live in raw eating, personal trainer now so that is going to help me a lot.

I will be posting my progress over the new 12 months here anyway. Good or bad results.

I tried it and couldn't stand the taste. I didn't want to lose any weight but wanted more energy (later went to my specialist and found I had low iron... ). The taste was really blurgh and I wasted $100....not worth it in my opinion....Just eat healthy, drink lots of water and exercise. :D

I have done the lemon detox diet several times, it is also known as the master cleanse. It is not designed as a 'weight loss' diet, although many people, incuding Beyonce have reported losing alot of weight in the 10 days, but as a previous poster has stated, you will put some of the weight back on.

Side effects = can be headaches and nausea in the first few days.
Weight Loss = yes, but not a long term weight loss solution
Weight Loss Maintained = You will lose some weight due to the low calorie intake for 10 days, this can be maintained.

If you want info, there is plenty on the web... I have a website [removed advertising link] with heaps of info and articles so you can make an informed decision, there is also a recipe of how to make the lemon cayenne pepper lemon detox drink if you're going to give it a go.

best of luck with your detox.

Here's why you should avoid the Lemon Detox Diet at all costs:

The Lemon Detox Diet is just another one of the ‘fast crash diets’ that preys on the insecurities of overweight people with promises of magical results!

The fact is that when people follow this lemon juice detox they will lose weight, and fast, but unfortunately, as with most of these ‘quick-fix’ approaches, they put all the weight back on and usually with a bit extra as well!

Let’s review how the Lemon Detox Diet ‘works’ and examine some of the reasons why you should avoid it at all costs!

No Food!
Yes, you read correctly! It recommends that you don’t eat anything for the entire 7-day detox plan. Any plan that recommends avoiding food or drastically reducing food intake to near-starvation levels should always be questioned and never conducted. Here's why you should always avoid hunger pain:

The human body needs food in order to function properly and any attempt to short cut weight loss by avoiding food is futile at best and potentially harmful to the body at worst!

It is a completely ridiculous approach to weight loss. Of course, if you don’t eat you lose weight- simple!

Uses common household ingredients
If people believe that a combination of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper has some sort of magical weight-loss powers, then they need to seek professional help!

Lemon juice contains sugar, a negligible amount of vitamin C and is mainly water. Maple syrup is a more concentrated source of sugar with miniscule amounts of a few vitamins, if any! Cayenne pepper may have some very mild nervous system stimulating effects, if at all.

The lemon detox system recommends having this concoction several times a day as a meal replacement.

Cost
These ingredients are in most people’s kitchens so it is just as easy to make it at home rather than going to health food store or pharmacy to pay around $100 for a product that costs less than $1 to make!

Now, let’s look at why it has become so popular:

A million-dollar marketing budget
People constantly get bombarded with ads promoting the virtues of the Lemon Detox Diet. With promises of dramatic weight loss and boundless energy why wouldn't someone with little knowledge of physiology or nutrition and who is desperate to lose weight give it a go?

Plus, the professional-looking, clinical packaging contributes to the belief that this weight-loss system is one that works! Nothing could be further from the truth!

The lemon detox diet website offers plenty of 'pseudo-science' to promote the effectiveness of the product. Again, without knowing much about nutrition or supplementation as well as the therapeutic dosages for ingredients to be effective, people would be compelled to think that this is a miracle weight-loss product!

Celebrity endorsement
Many companies use this technique, often deceptively, to promote their products. As a result, it has some people believing that if the product is good enough for 'Celebrity X', then it is good enough for me!

The reality is that often the celebrity hasn't even used the product, they have simply been paid a large sum of money to put their name to it.

It gets fast results. Albeit temporary results!
Many overweight people are desperate! They have often tried to lose weight many times before without success and they are constantly looking for the solution to their problem.

This makes them sitting ducks for marketers of dubious weight-loss products that promise dramatic results in record time!

As mentioned previously, if you don't eat, you lose weight! And that is how the lemon detox diet works. Of course, when the user starts eating again, the weight piles back on, even faster than they lost it due to the body invoking the 'Anti-Starvation Response'.

If you want to follow a detox diet to help you lose weight, here's a completely free detox diet that will help you get results quickly and safely. Best of all, if you maintain the principles fairly closely you will be able to keep the weight off for the rest of your life!

There are far better nutritional approaches to lose weight fast. Unfortunately, the Lemon Detox Diet is NOT one of them!

Hi friend,
I would like to add few comments here regarding Lemon Detox Diet.
Lemon detox diet is very close to starvation: you have to drink nothing but lemon juice mixed with maple syrup, water and cayenne pepper. Your daily calorie intake is minimum, and it is very dangerous to consume less than 1200 calories per day, unless you are supervised by specialists. Of course, you will lose weight if you don't eat anything. But this effect won't last long. As soon as you finish dieting, your organism will store even more fat than before. The reason this happens is that when you starve, your body enters the so-called "starvation mode". It shuts down some of its functions, as a result, you feel sleepy, fatigue, you lack energy, can't work and concentrate. When you start eating normally again, your organism, after experiencing this shock, makes energy reserves by storing fat, in case it will have to starve again.

Thanks
Terry Moran
