Why do "alternative" exercise, just go for the basics.
When i first started to loose weight my trainer gave me a simple and easy plan to follow. Find out what your maximum is for push ups/ sit ups. Once you know get the 60% of max. Start on a monday doing 60% of your max on push up/sit up every morning when you wake up. Then every monday after that add 2. So say week 1 you do 10. Means week 2 is 12, week 3 is 14, etc.... Every 4 weeks add in a new exercise following the same pattern. Very quickly you'll get improved tone/endurance. within a few short months you'll have slowly worked your way to a full workout with little effort. Worked wonders for me.
