Postby Mandy87 » Mon Aug 10, 2009 4:10 pm

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone experiences the same pain when jogging/walking on the tredmil I get this sharp pain on the outside of each leg about a third of the way up my leg. Does anyone else get this? Or know what it is from and how I can make it stop. Its making cardio a real pain for me!

Thanks

Hi Mandy - I am by no means a doctor but what you are describing sounds like shin splints (had them!). The only way to make it stop is rest unfortunately!! I know massive catch 22!! When I started exercising (92kgs) I developed very bad shin splints - what you need to do is start out with non weight bearing cardio activites, i.e. swimming, water aerobics, x trainer, bike... now at 68kgs I am not getting them anymore - that being said I stretch ALL the time. As shin splints can be caused by thight muscles in the backs of your legs (calves) as well...
Ice and NSAIDS (anti inflammatories) can help relieve the pain however to make them stop for good you need to rest up...
