When to Start to Toning?

Hey y'all!!

I have successfully managed to lose more than 10 kilos since I joined this forum. (26 kilos since the start of my weight-loss journey). Now I am at a point when I am rather confused.

See, all this time, during my weight loss, I have only been doing loads and loads of cardio exercises like running, X-trainer, Stepper and Spinning classes. I am at 79 kilos now.

I do not want a "bulky-muscly" body. Rather, I want a "toned" body. When I say toned, I mean that all my muscles should be packed-tight and there should be as less "fat" around my muscle as possible.

My confusion is if I should reach my goal weight first and then work on toning OR if I should reach my healthy weight range of BMI less than 25 and then work on toning? I am really confused and would appreciate any comments. Thank you :)

Start weight training sooner rather than later - it will help you to burn calories, will make you look smaller, than the scale would say and will make you look HOT and it is very hard for women to get bulky muscles - virtually impossible to do by accident.

I have been weight training for almost four months twice a week lifting pretty darn heavy and I have toned, gained fantastic posture, and have a more sculptured look - but I am a LOOOONG way from looking bulky or muscular or butch. For lean muscle building but non bulk my trainer has me doing exercises with weights that I can do between 15 and 25 reps of, usually 3 sets. If I can do more than 25 the weight goes up, less than 15 and it either drops back or I stay there till I am over 25.
I never thought I would witness the destruction of a Universe whilst carrying a naked merchant banker...

just adding - my fiance is on the same kind of weight regimen and he is losing fat tremendously - he has developed more muscular arms but previously had spaghetti arms! Other than that his overall shape is simply improving (brader shoulders narrow waist) and he is getting lean, not bulking up.
I never thought I would witness the destruction of a Universe whilst carrying a naked merchant banker...

Hey thx for the great advice both Mogget and Amethyst...but i am still confused if i should weight lift after i have reached 75 kilos or 69 kilos or should i start now?

I feel that if i start working with weights, i may not be able to enough cardio and subsequently not lose weight rapidly :roll: :?

why wouldnt you be able to do the same amount of cardio by doing weights??? there shouldnt be any physical reason why you couldnt do the same amount of cardio as before, weight training should only be done three times a week with at least a day inbetween each weight session. why are you wanting to lose "rapidly"- that just makes it all come back more rapidly...

ummm do your cardio first then.......

I do my cardio first, then weights in the gym and then i go to a pump class on my weight days.

If your tired then your weights are probably to high

I do my weights Tuesday and friday and do cardio the other 5 days per week. All good.
I never thought I would witness the destruction of a Universe whilst carrying a naked merchant banker...

I guess, i am gonna do my cardio first from now on and i am gonna lower my weights to be able to make hardly 15 reps for 3 sets....i am gonna do weights for 2 days to start with and then when i reach 75 kilos, i am gonna do weights for 3 days in a week...and cardio everyday of the week...
