Measuring My Bits...How can I be consistent and accurate?

Postby nothing2lose » Mon May 31, 2010 11:34 pm

Hi all...hoping you can help...

Kind of embarrassing to admit but, as I carry my weight predominantly on my front (esp. my boobs and tummy) I have trouble measuring my waist/hips/boobs, etc at the same place each time.
It is especially the case with my waist/stomach. I have two main rolls (not counting boobs) with a thinner bit in the middle where my belly button is (I cant believe I am actually typing this!!  ) Should I be measuring that thinner bit? Or the outer extremity of each roll (may as well throw all of my dignity out at this point!!)

Also, how do you know if the tape measure is in the same spot at the back?? (and not on an angle and therefore adding cms)

It is something I have never known the answer to, short of tattooing a -------------measure along here ----------- line strategically across my various bits.

Am I alone here? Does anyone else have this problem? How did you solve it?

Embarrassingly Yours

OMG I have the exact same problem!!!

It's why I am so hesitant to measure myself!!

I measure the thinner bit of my stomach, not on the actual roll. I know that my skin is going to sag soon from the weightloss, and it won't be in the same place, so it'd be useless measuring there.

But I have been told to measure at the widest point, it just doesn't make sense for me to do that.

Hope this helped. :)

I'd go for the thinner section too... and stand side on to a mirror to make sure the tape is straight.

the guidelines I was given say
Find a point mid way between the bottom of your lowest rib and the top of your pelvic bone
Stand comfortably with your feet approximately 20 – 25 cm (10 to 12 inches) apart
Fit the tape measure snugly around your waist without compressing any of the underlying soft tissue
Measure to the nearest 1⁄2 cm at the end of a normal breath out.

they were vague about exactly where, so I reckon, its where the body goes in. :)
Just think of all the harry high pants or larry low pants out there, they think their pants were on their waists. Im not telling them otherwise

Thanks girls!

It's nice to know I am not alone. Damn you fat-rolls!!!

And thanks for the advice Lalala. I am pretty sure I have ribs (somewhere in there  ). I will try out your method and let you know how I go.
