When to exercise ?

Postby GoddessInside » Fri Jan 11, 2008 2:02 pm

Hey guys & gals,

Just a quick question, when is it best to exercise in order to make the most of your session ?

Before or after exercise ?

TIA :)

Or before/after work??

I like to get mine over and done with early. And I believe that you burn more fat by excercising first thing before eating. But, it depends what time of the day you have the most energy (ie, if you are a morning person or a night person etc) so you can get the most out of it. And also depends what's on for the day....

I heard somewhere, and this is a bit silly, that 3 hours and 11 hours after you wake up are the best times. No idea why that would be, but anyway!

Hey Hun,

I'm not really sure what the correct answer is...but, I generally follow the rule.."BEFORE MY BUTT HITS THE LOUNGE CHAIR" :P

Because I'm up for work @ 4am every morning, I don't have time to do a workout in the mornings..so I do it after lunch every arvo before I sit down.

If I'm feeling REALLY energetic, I may do an extra 1/2 hr after tea whilst Hubby is doing the dishes and the Kidlet's are in the bath :D

Maybe try googling for some info...

I like to eat before I work out... I'd eat like hour and a half before, helps me with energy, but in saying this the food that I have consumed just better be nutrient densed, if not then do it on a empty stomach.

I go to the gym first thing in the morning. I usually have some yogurt and a banana when I first get out of bed along with a cup of black tea (around 30 mins before going to the gym) Then have a bowl of cereal and some fruit when I get home.

Its like running a car, you need to get some fuel into the tank to get things going/burning to give you optimum energy to workout..... building muscle and burning fat throughout.
If you dont eat - your body still needs fuel and it will get it from muscles, so therefore you wont burn as many calories, plus of course you could feel tired more quickly.

I have 1/2 banana or 1/2 glass orange juice or a few spoonfuls of yogurt 30mins before i workout in the morning.
Then after, I wait at least 30mins before I have my brekkie.

I'm a morning person, but would never dream of excising in the morning... haha.

First thing when I get home from work, off go the heels and the workout gear slips on... 30 minutes on the x-trainer and I feel so good that sitting down on the couch afterwards doing nothing feels sooo guilt free!

Personally I would say after. You would probably benefit from some protein within 20-30mins of finishing exercise, and what better time to eat dinner than when your metabolism is working at its peak.

I like to exercise after a light breakfast in the morning.

I normally do various things until lunch time then stop. Recently i've been doing something light after dinner and it stops me from over eating at night and gets me relaxed before bed AND according to my sneak peak weigh ins, it is helping me to lose in a big way :D
Saying goodbye to calorie counting AND scales for a while.

Just enjoying the new and improved healthy me and embracing my new lifestyle!

As I'm on Optifast too, I found it good to have my shake/meal after I excersie, otherwise I feel quite sick because there is too much liquid 'swishing around' in my stomach.... LOL

i'd say dinner afterwards, but it would be good to have eaten something about an hour/90 mins before if you can? something like a banana if that fits on the plan?
