Sore leg when walking

Postby JL77 » Mon Jan 28, 2008 4:34 pm

Hey all.

I just wanted you advice, when I go walking I get this pain in both of my lower legs. Sorry not sure whats it called. Its on the side of both legs and it runs from about my ancle to hlaf way up my leg below my knee...

It kills me, it feels like my bones are going to snap in 2. Everytime i walk with hubby he says oh its because you dont walk enuogh blah blah but I really dont think it is. I dont walk far enough as I should but i am on my feet alot working in childcare so I dont think it could be it.

I sometimes even stretch but it still happens

Has anyone ever experienced this?

You are experiencing the curse of shin splints. I had these for ages aswell and it gets that bad it can turn you to tears.
My best advise is to see a great physio. Get a good pair of runners. Make sure you relax and keep off your feet for a while. Ice them aswell.
If you want to know more just send me a PM.

I reckon it sounds like good old shin splints too. Ice your legs after each walk and take some pain killers. I don't think there's much you can do for it until your legs get stronger :( But best to get advice from a health care professional of course (which I am definitely not!)

It only happens when i am walking like for after a few minutes, other then that like at work I dont have any problems with it?

Is it caused by being over weight? and I thought what you girls are talking about happens at the front of the legs not the side?

Read the following article Jez - it may help understand a bit more about it. It's not just the front of your leg, but the pain can be to the side of your shin too. It's typically an overuse injury. http://www.medicinenet.com/shin_splints/article.htm

I had the exact same thing when I started exercising Jez, from my ankles to below my knees on the sides of my legs (outside). I just kept going and after 6 weeks or so as I got fitter and stronger it went and hasn't been back since.

Maybe get yourself to a physio if you're worried.
