What motivates you to go to the gym / exercise?

Postby ali76 » Thu Feb 07, 2008 1:02 pm

Ok, we've got the thread on what puts you off exercise, so I thought I'd ask what motivates you to do it?!

I know it sounds weird, but I love that ache you get when you get home....it re-inforces that you've done something! Also, even though I don't like being hot (I HATE the summer) I love it when I'm doing a circuit and the sweat is literally pouring off me so I can see it! It's a great sense of achievement for me!! Weird-o!!!

I also love coming home to my boyfriend...when he sees me all hot and sweaty not only do I motivate him, but I know I'm no longer complaining about my weight and doing nothing about it...!!

Great thread ali :D

I LOVE to sweat from exercise too, I love to have it dripping off me, to the point it fogs my glasses up

I find exercise a GREAT way to relax and to take my frustrations out of - gotta direct that negative energy somewhere or hubby is on the receiving end

I just love it, I really do, its fun, its good for me and it makes me look and feel better.

I go through stages of what I enjoy the most, right now its martial arts since i've just started and boy oh boy its a fantastic workout!
Saying goodbye to calorie counting AND scales for a while.

Just enjoying the new and improved healthy me and embracing my new lifestyle!

I have found that if I am unable to go to the gym for my morning session I fell off kilter. I have only been going everyday for about 8 weeks now, but the few occasions I had to miss it (due to work commitments) I was on autopilot all day, couldn't get fully functioning at all.

My main motivation behind going to the gym is that I no longer want to be the person I was 3 months ago, and am not going to allow myself to slip back into bad habits.

1. I know how good I will feel afterwards
2. I know how bad I will feel if I don't go... emotionally and physically
3. Maths, and the law of calorie balance... I eat therefore I gym hahaha

Pretty simple really. It's a must.

I just love the feeling of pushing myself to the limit, I love sweating and I love knowing that my body will thank me for it in the years to come.

Well, my exercise is riding to/from work/uni, so my motivation is that I have to go to work! LOL, not that I currently appear to be doing much :?
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).

I love the sweat :) I love the *good* pain you feel when working out :)
But I love that I have stopped having panic attacks, it makes me feel
great. Its my new addiction instead of those horrid smokes :)

Knowing how good I'll feel is what motivates me. I exercise in the mornings now (ie go running) and it's wonderful to have my evenings free to relax - not have to juggle dinner, exercise, shower etc. Even when I don't feel like it when I wake up and it's still dark, I just imagine for one second how good it'll feel once I'm out there and I find myself rolling out of bed.

Gym is another story - I find it a chore and I it's hard to get motivated for it :(
Just keep moving! And don't be lazy...

Its the feeling you get once you start exercising, and the feeling once you're done.

Also, the knowledge that it'll make you look hot in a little while

Right now, its wanting to look good in my dress and on my honeymoon!
Had my baby girl Leah on 13/12/10!

I was thinking about it earlier and I have another motivation.

I use the Calorie King counter every day and love putting my exercise in and seeing my net calories for the day fall...it really puts exercise into perspective and the good it's doing - and the calories it burns...burn baby burn!!!

Hi everybody, i`m new here, i`m a 22 y.o. boy from Europe, now I live in U.S. I exercise for about 2 month, 3 times a week, now 1 hour treadmill around 10 km/h. I should change my diet little bit too, I love to eat :), but anyway I lost already 8 kg, and I want like 10 kg more. It takes like 10 minutes and sweat is pouring off my whole body, in 1 hour I loose around 2 liters of water. I don`t like too much when its dripping off me, but the feeling after shower then is great and sweat out toxins is also good. I feel generally better then before.
So good luck everyone in losing weight and greetings to Australia :) David

I love the way working out makes me stronger and fitter and improves my posture. Every day movements are easier due to exercise, like walking up stairs, hauling all the groceries out of the car, etc.

I also love dripping with sweat (when exercising, I loathe it otherwise), and I love coming home to my boyfriend after the gym. He gets really turned on by seeing me all flushed and sweaty -- he's so weird!!!

HAHA!! My words exactly!!

I love the feeling you get afterwards knowing you've just completed your workout. Its an amazing feeling both physically and emotionally. I also love when I sweat in a workout coz it actually means its doing me some good.
