Ankle Weights

Postby shelbel » Sat Feb 09, 2008 10:40 am

Does anyone remember back in the 80's they had ankle weights? Well i saw some in target the other day and after a little chuckle to myself i started to wonder what exactly they do. I know that bringing extra weight along makes the body work harder (thank you leslie sansome :D ) Do you think they would be any good, say if you wore them for a WATP work out or hidden under trackies for a walk? Would it tone the legs?

Any input would be great! :D

I had 4 lots of weights, 2 for my wrists and 2 for my ankles and I used to put them on to go for a walk every morning....it makes going up hills SO much harder and you can REALLY feel the difference!

I loved them...but sold them at a garage sale before I went over seas....which I'd kept them now!!

Personally, i loved them and thought they were a great investment :P

I'll be getting my own fitness up before I buy them back again though!!

Oohhh....$8 at target?! I'm in...might be a good excuse to have a lunch break and run down the road!!

Nag, I used to wear them at home and I honestly thought they helped. It might only help a little bit, but every little bit helps as far as I'm concerned!

They sound great for walking, but I'd read somewhere that you should never use them while jogging or running. The stress on your joints is already far greater when you run without adding extra weight to it. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for them to help my walking activities, though!

OK i brought some ankle weights today. I got the eaviest they had (at Big W- their section was pretty good), its 2.3 kgs (5lbs) on each ankle. I have been wearing them for an hour and i think they will do a quite a bit :D I have a door gate which blocks off the front lounge and our bedroom so i have to keep stepping over that and i have a wooden door barrier on the office door so i can escape in here for a few mins at a time but i have to get over that everytime so i feel it in my legs :|

Thanks for the great idea  Oh and they cost $11.00
