Skipping

Postby bferbear » Sat Feb 16, 2008 6:03 pm

I bought a skipping rope today as it was suggested by my PT as being an easily portable way of keeping a regular cardio schedule while I am travelling.

I figured 20 mins a day would be a good way to start as that is what I do on my other cardio stations and I could build up from there.

20mins a day..........I was dreaming............ I am absolutely shagged after 5 minutes. I have a new respect for people who do this regularly.

LOL it might be cheaper to get some cheap sunglasses then.

I was seriously surprised by how much effort it took to do properly. My last recollections of skipping were as a 5 or 6 year old with the big rope in the school playground when boys and girls were young enough that they still played together.

Your not wrong bear, skipping is MEGA hard work!

I do 100-300 skips a day most days (thats under 5 mins!) which is 100 each go. I don't think I could skip longer than 5 mins at a time IF I could even do that

Maybe do 5 mins morning, 5 mins before lunch and 5 mins an hour after dinner? Thats 15 mins and damn good exercise, it burns lots of calories too :D
Saying goodbye to calorie counting AND scales for a while.

Just enjoying the new and improved healthy me and embracing my new lifestyle!

i love skipping! i used to love doing it at school and would participate in the jump rope for heart program. fun times. hahaha.
but yeah. skipping is very tiresome!! and after 5 minutes straight, i am pretty much buggered.
but i just take a 2 minute break, drink some water, and back to it.
i think the key is to just take little rests in between.

I used to skip a few years ago, but my back and knees can't handle the impact. Lousy body... :P

What i have found is that I skip for 100 jumps, then do a set of tricep dips with the coffee table, skip for 100 jumps then do a set of tricep dips. Then do some ab work for a while. Takes 10-15 mins and is a fairly hard workout which requires little or no room, so will be perfect while I am on the road.

I skip for warm up before my boxercise classes and it is an awesome workout.

I used to skip to music... I would skip for 1 song then do abs for a song then skip for another song then do arm work for another song. It is a really good way to keep your heart rate up while doing weight sessions too.

Such a good idea Sas! I live in an upstairs unit at the moment so don't like to skip inside - noisey for the lady downstairs, not the greatest for the carpet and not much room! I'm moving in a few weeks to a place with a massive backyard so it might be a GREAT time to get the skipping rope back out! Get the pumped up music ready!

Yeah I live in a unit and don't have any room to skip anymore. I used to love doing it cause it was something you didn't have to leave the house for. Good think to do at night while watching TV too :)
