Group Personal Training?

Postby Diminishing » Fri Mar 28, 2008 8:36 pm

Hi all,

I have come across a local personal trainer who runs group personal training sessions, locally to me.

She does fairly full on one on one sessions and weekly group sessions.

The group sessions are 2.5 hrs each, which includes a weigh in.

The program runs over 20 weeks and works out at $30 a week.

The groups (I think) are only 12 people per program.

So, my question to you all, does this sound like it would be effective?

Does anyone else use a personal trainer? Either as an individual or group session?

What costs are "average"?

What should I look out for?

Thanks in advance......

Yes. Not only would you be getting the benefit of training with a qualified trainer who can push you to do things you wouldn't think you are capable of you also get to exercise with other people. Fantastic way to meet people and makes exercising more fun.

Yes I have a PT. I see him on Tuesday mornings and Thursday mornings. I also have a running group I run with too, purely for the social factor though

My PT has a package deal of 10 sessions for $500. This package deal is considerably cheaper than paying for each session individually, as he charges $65 per session.

Maybe ask if you can attend one session and see what the trainer is like, whether you will gel and get on with the other people too. Also ask about peoples results. Ask what type of qualification the trainer has and how long they have been training for etc.

No more weighing, no more scales. My measurement is my success at health. It's an investment I make every single day. My priority: be healthy!

I do group personal training through "Step Into Life" and I can't speak highly enough of it. From what your saying you'll get the best of both worlds - one-on-one and group. For me the "group" part is the key as while theres still individual support your working out as a team. The numbers sound small enough so that you won't be able to slack off but you would still get the comraderie and social aspect of the group for support. Also I like the time frame - 20 weeks is long enough for a "lifestyle change" to take effect so I would say go for it.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

I have bitten the bullet, and I am meeting with heron Wednesday night, and from there I think I will go for it.

I have chatted to her a few times on the 'phone and have really warmed to her attitude, so I think I am gonna do it......................eeeek!

Ali, it is local to where I live in Rostrevor/Athelstone (Foxfield Oval) but her brochure says she also does groups in "Eastern, Northern & Southern suburbs as well as Mawson Lakes & Marion".

I'll pm you her details..............

Would it be effective?
-It sounds good, training with a group is good for motivation too.

Does anyone else use a personal trainer?
-Yes, I do group fitness sessions (boot camp) twice a week, and also use a personal trainer to set up programs and track results.

What costs are average?
-I don't know, mine is on the expensive side (I think) at $18 per session.

What should I look out for?
-With 2.5 hour sessions will you always have enough time to be able to go?
