Regular exercises doesn’t just burn calories and help you lose weight, it offers a host of other benefits, such as reducing your risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, some cancers, arthritics and osteoporosis. It can reduce stress and anxiety and even boost your memory.
If you haven’t been exercising at all, simply walking slow will help you give these desire effects. The more you walk, the more your body will grow accustomed to activity.
Once you maintain a moderate walking pace, try other types of aerobic activities, such as bike riding, jogging, or taking an aerobics class. The more variety you put into your exercise program, the more you’ll enjoy it.

The memory benefits are thought to be from improving vascular health (which includes the blood vessels in the brain) the oxygenation of the blood going to the brain thereby improving performance. To my knowledge there's been some recent research into the benefits of exercise on cognitive function generally particularly in ageing populations.
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).
