Wii Fit Plus - a waste of time???

Postby nothing2lose » Thu Jun 24, 2010 6:08 pm

I have a question...

Does wii fit exercise count?

I did 35 mins of it today (mostly aerobic) and burned approx 300 cals (according to them).

Does anyone know of the accuracy and/or effectiveness of this?

Am I just fooling myself and wasting my time?

thanks!!

I wouldn't be trusting the calorie count of anything but a decent Heart Rate Monitor.

Thanks Czarina!

I think you are right.

I might have to invest in one. Is there a particular one you can recommend (when it comes to exercise, I know NOTHING!!)

I have decided to keep going with the wii fit because it is better than sitting on my bum watching tv! As long as I do other stuff as well, I think it helps get me in the habit of moving (which cant be a bad thing!)

I have Sportline one, Polar is a very popular brand. Just make sure that whatever you get has a chest strap, not just a button on the watch that detects your pulse. Also make sure you can enter in your details, i.e. height, weight, gender, etc, otherwise it won't be very accurate at all. Be prepared to spend at least $90.

Wii fit isn't a waste of your time. As you said - any time you are off your bum and moving it's a good thing.

It's probably not the ultimate way to burn energy, but if you are using that as 2 of 7 exercise sessions per week, its not a bad thing.

As far as metabolism and calories used go in/direct calorimetry is the only way to go if you want to be accurate.

Everything else - including HR monitors guestimate..
