Housework

Postby Lolly » Sun Jan 07, 2007 3:15 pm

does it count as exercise when you build up a sweat doing the housework?

I wore the pedometre while doing it today and did 3667 steps just doing the housework

It was not easy going stuff either, I mopped, vacuumed, swept and put up curtains in my room (the neighbours will be so sad about that,........ NOT)

I tried putting it into calorie king and they don't have it on their exercise list :(
Every day I am getting thinner and thinner.....

Hi Lolly,

Of course it can - any physical movement is good especially at a constant pace at a length of time. Vacumming and sweeping you are using different parts of the body. If you didnt already, when you are next doing the housework - put on the music and dance around in between tasks...

If you think about burning fat while doing the housework - I guess it will give you more motivation to do it. I does with me...

Just a warning with the pedometer - but if you are sweeping etc you might be making it jump up more steps by the movement of your body rather than the taking the actual step. Thats what mine use to do anyway.

Thanks for that Kyles

I don't think I will count the housework as exercise and just think of it as a bonus for the day :D

I did go for my walk though :D

Yes I have read that you should not count it as a part of your normal daily routine but just view it more as a bonus. Probably pay off on the next weigh in!!

Calorie King does have a few housework items on it but not general cleaning.
