where you can measure distances.

If you have it, open it up and find your address and then click on the ruler in the navigation bar and go from there - it is great - I now know that I am 4.28kms from work

I just thought of those people who go walking etc and don't know how far they went would like this as you can measure relatively accurately (without driving  ) and then participate in our challenge - gotta get there soon...................... are we there yet?
Every day I am getting thinner and thinner.....

Its best to only download from the official website. Otherwise there might be adware/spyware or other nastys in the download.

http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html

And I just had a look at what it installs from the other website, it installs alot of other programs. :P Although nothing bad, mainly toolbars. And I hate toolbars.

I'm with Kate on this one...The Get Directions feature of whereis.com does the same thing and doesn't download any nasty stuff to your PC

I use it all the time to work out how far I've walked and have actually measured the distance a couple of times to check the accuracy and it's pretty much spot on.
Cheers, Mary

If I could find a ticker for measurements it would say I'm on the way from a waist measurement of 134cm to one of 70cm (currently at 129cm)

Thanks Lolly

This was great I really like looking on google earth but did not know it had this feature.

I worked out that my usual walk around the block is 4.5km but I saw a little road that I could add in to take it up to 5km.

But even better I worked out that I walk 1/2 Km from my car park to my office, so counting there and back that's an extra 1km per day. yipee.

In the tools menu there is an option for measure.
You will get a dialogue box and you can click on the map for start and finish - it then gives you the measurement.

SO CLEVER!
