A little bit at a time can be good. I started off just using mine for 1/2 hr tv slots. I would bounce up and down at a reasonably light pace for the duration of the show (great for tummy muscles). If you don't sit up straight it can hurt your back. There are other great exercises you can do with it to. Try googling fit ball or swiss ball exercises.
