Incidental exercise

Postby Chelle » Mon Apr 30, 2007 12:53 pm

Incidental Exercises are the movements you perform during the day as part of everyday life.

Planned exercise is important but keeping active throughout the day is the key to permanent weight loss. Increasing your level of activity will keep your body burning calories.

There are many ways that you can increase your activity level.

Your goal is to achieve at least 4 incidental exercises each day of the week. The more time that you spend doing incidental exercises, the more calories you will burn.

Choose from the following list or add some of your own to your personal exercise diary.

*Park the furtherest distance from the shopping centre that you can.
*walk an extra lap of the shopping center before you load up with parcels
*try not to sit still for more than half an hour during the day
*get off the bus two stops before your regular stop
*walk or be active for at least 20 minutes in your lunch hour
*take the steps instead of the lift
*walk to the corner shop to get the bread on the weekend
*play with the children instead of just watching
*cycle instead of driving
*be more active around the house
*get in and do that gardening that you have been putting off
*walk an extra lap around the garden when you hang out the washing
*walk up and down your stairs as often as you can
*walk the dog for 10 minutes each day
*throw away the remote control for the TV and get out of your chair

Remember that permanent weight loss is a result of the total number of calories used up during the course of the day -

The more you move, the closer you will be to your goal of a healthy body weight.
