We bought a free standing unit that has a punch/kick bag on one side and a speed ball on the other. It's pretty good. It cost around $200. I have heaps of gloves lying around back from my karate days (a little different to boxing gloves though) and my last pair I bought a while ago through a kickboxing class I did for about $25 and they are good - lots of protection. I sometimes just use gym gloves to stop my knuckles grazing if I want to get a more 'realistic' feel for my punching.

You can get some much cheaper than that.

I don't use it all that often because it's in our shed which is dark and dusty :( Need a bigger house so I can have an indoor workout room - one day ...

It's a great workout, though. I was doing the 8 seconds to weightloss thing using the punching bag and speed ball and 20 mins would just fly by... but too dark and cold to get out there now.
Just keep moving! And don't be lazy...

thanks san

yeah we have a verandah out the back and we are thinking of getting one to hang of the beams. it looks so much fun and because mick can get a temper when trying to start the dodgy whipper snipper i think that the bag would be a good relief for him haha

we have a punching bag on a stand at home - not sure how much it cost because we've borrowed it from the boy's brother.

i got some boxing gloves the other week & i think they were $25 - they're purple.

i love using the punching bag. when i used to go and see a PT he always made me do the bag & i actually loved it & used to ask to do extra boxing and less bike

it's very therapeutic if you've had a hard day as well

lol, i've been known to give it a bit of a kick as well...but that's just for fun! :D

i just do what i did with my trainer - and that's punching it as fast as i can for amounts of time - i.e. 30 seconds punching, 10 second break, then do that again twice. then maybe some weights & then go back to the boxing again.

i've been meaning to have a look online for some suggested workouts as well.

Just wondering if anyone knows the calories burned during a moderate session on the boxing bag ?

trying to break up my cardio a bit with some things like boxing, rowing etc instead of staying on the crosstrainer all the time.

Well lucky enough to have an Ex Boxing coach down at the gym and *she* has been kind enough to coach me through a few exercises.

Have to say what a work out, i stripped off 1 kilo in sweat alone during about 20 minutes of the exercise. Also helps out with balance and co-ordination.

Get into the boxing if ya can guys its an awesome workout.
