Before or after weight session?

Postby HappyBella55 » Wed Sep 12, 2007 10:41 am

I just have question to ask about weight training:

Should I do my cardio before a weight training sessio or after?

I have this total body work out video that goes for 40 minutes and is all strength training. My sis told me to do this first then head out for a walk after not before as I will burn more fat.

Is this true?

She said something about using glucose when doing the weight and when I go for the walk after I'll be using my fat storage for energy - is this correct??

so much to learn about weight loss :o

I have always been told you should do weights THEN cardio.

Not sure why though...

Yeah, weights before cardio as your muscles need a lot of energy to lift weights and it's best you don't fatigue them before a session. Doing cardio before will starve your muscles, making them less effective.
Current weight 50.4kg

Fat % 14.0%

I am confused about this also. I go to the gym first thing in the morning and usually don't eat anything before I go. I know that doing cardio first thing on an empty stomach is good for fat burning because your insulin and blood sugar are low so your body goes for the fat for energy. But then, doing weights on an empty stomach may not be so good, particularly after doing cardio :?

The argument for weights then cardio sounds good though.

I'm starting to think that cardio in the morning then weights in the evening might be the way to go. It's just a matter of finding time in the evening!! :(

It's totally up to you which you do first. If your main focus and area you want to improve is weights, do that first so you use as much energy as you can on it. If it's cardio, do that first!

hmmm I'm even more confused now lol.

I can't tire myself out too much with weights as I only have 1kg and 2kgs hand weights.

I guess I'll keep on doing what i'm doing and if I don't see results after a while I can change it around.

I personally do a 15 or so min cardio warm up. Then go on to do my weights which atm are about 25kgs upper body and 65kgs lower. After i have done my upperbody weights i do some more cardio then lower body weights and more cardio. The trick to it is that you have to keep your body warm and you shouldnt do weights "cold".
If u train first thing in the morning dont be eating breakfast until 1 hour after your finish training. I gives your body time to absorb some fat that you want to loose. Make sure you eat protein after your workout. Protien shakes are good for that.
