I'm just an insomniac unfortunately. Sometimes I'll be able to go to sleep at night, but most of the time I stay up all night because I can't sleep.

Yikes! I'd to suffer from insomnia. Are you on holidays at the moment so that's why you can sleep during the day?

Nope, still studying - Summer Semester. I have writers block atm which is making me stressed too - I've got a massive assignment worth 45% of my grade for one subject :(

Urgh! That's a fair chunk of your overall grade. What's the subject and paper topic? Is it interesting or just one of those subjects you have to check off?

It's a core subject, and it's kinda interesting... but it's a case study and it's all over the place. I've drawn up a mind map, gone through the theory, all that's left to do is write but it's just not coming out :( It's basically a case study, that has to do with an organisation, it's teams and it's individuals and their behaviours, the culture of the organisation and stuff like that. It should be this hard really, maybe I'm complicating it too much :? I dunno, it's just messy!

When's your assignment due?

I've found what helps me to get the ball rolling is to just do a brain dump of stuff and turn off my inner-censor and just... write! But I really hate that feeling when it just won't come together - it's like you know what you want to say but it's just not coming out right :? Make sense?

Makes perfect sense Milkyway!!! That's pretty much where I am now... It's due on the 12th!!!!!! This is the first one of two due on that day for the same subject - luckily the other one is worth 5% and is a 750 word essay on what we like and dislike and our strengths and weaknesses in essay writing :| I've also got an assignment due for IT on the 16th, following that a 5000 word essay on The Strange Case of Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde (which I still haven't read) on the 26th and then another assignment due for IT on the 30th. Following that I have exams on the 9th, 11th and 12th :(

Can you say OVERLOADED???

Today:

AF: CD 28

Eating Habits: So far so good! Breakfast I had a protein shake with honey in it (tasted a million times better!) and 2 pieces of toast with mightymite on it. Lunch I had a tuna salad (I discovered this new dressing: 1tsp of wholegrain mustard, 1tbsp of mayonnaise, 3tbsp of white vinegar - awesome!) and dinner I had a frozen meal - apricot chicken. In total I've had 1292 calories.

Exercise Habits: None. The gym has been closed for 5 days! 5? What the hell? 5 days? I'm itching to go for a swim!!!

Thoughts/Feelings: Feeling good today - feeling more motivated! I weigh 126kg today, which I really deserve for eating crappy the last week. But I'm feeling good today :)

I'll do a final update later on tonight and do a weekly overview and stuff.

Ok, final update for today: I had a snack just before that consisted of popcorn, hot chocolate, and salmon and dill dip with watercrackers. In total today I've had 1931 calories. I'm going to be taking some sleeping tablets a bit later on to make sure I go to sleep!

WEEK OVERVIEW:

I haven't reached any of my goals this week. Except for my habit with sweets, I drank a lot of hot chocolate and went through a fair few low fat marshmallows, but ultimately these were a better option than eating a bucket of icecream or a block of chocolate. I have definitely noticed that my eating, cravings and motivation levels change with my cycle. I will be getting a shot soon to stop me from getting AF, which hopefully should make this whole process easier. I'm feeling more confident this week about everything.

Thoughts/Feelings: I feel disappointed in myself that I didn't reach any of my goals, and that I did badly this week. I know that I cannot blame this on anyone but myself and I promise myself that next week will definitely be better. It is a choice, and the longer I eat badly and don't exercise, I'm making a choice to be obese and I don't want to obese any more.

So, my goals for this coming week (5th - 11th):

Pretty much the same as last week:
- Exercise for 30minutes (either all together or in intervals) a day, 3 times this week. This is to get rid of my worst habit: Leading a sedentary lifestyle.
- Eat fruit or low-fat yoghurt instead of ice-cream. My second worst weakness: sweets.
- Eat 6 small meals a day, however still eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. Snack on fruit, tuna, low-fat protein/fruit bars or protein shakes. My second worst habit: Starving myself for hours, and then binge eating.

Today:

AF: CD 29

Eating Habits: No breakfast. Lunch was a mcain meal, mustard chicken. Dinner was lamb with mustard and almond glaze with lettuce and fetta cheese. Snacks consisted of 4 Jarrah hot chocolates, 4 marshmallows, 1 nonut lactose free chocolate bar, and 6 ww rasperry tartlets. Total calorie intake: 1640.

Exercise: None.

Thoughts/Feelings: Feeling good! I took sleeping tablets last night to get me to sleep, and they worked! Just today I felt so drowsy and couldn't get out of bed, but finally did at 12pm, and randomly snoozed throughout the day for 10 minutes here and there (in random places too, I fell asleep at the kitchen table!), so thankfully my sleeping pattern is almost back in order! As for my eating/exercise habits - feel proud of myself that I stayed well under my calorie intake (which I have set at 1960 per day now). I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow for a half hour swim, and hopefully this will make my mind energetic enough to tackle the massive amount of study that I've got! The stress is starting to get to me... I'm worried that this will reflect in my eating choices, but thankfully the PMS cravings have subsided somewhat. I found the Jarrah hot chocolates in the tea isle of the supermarket - they're 42 calories each! If I can cut out the milk that I have with them that'd be so awesome! I'm lucky I think with this whole weight loss journey. DH tells me about when he was about my size - he was eating frozen pizzas and pies with cheese on them all the time, and there was no such thing as salad or veges in his diet and he had to teach himself how to like them and cook them. I on the otherhand really love salads and veges and fruit, and I don't have much sugar in my tea or eat many fried foods or butter. My main problem is though that when I do eat fried foods, processed foods or butter, I go completely overboard, plus my meal sizes are way too large and I have a weaknesses for ice-cream and carbohydrates. I bought some bananas today, so tomorrow morning I'm going to experiment with blending together a banana, some ice, 200ml of milk, a vanilla optislim shake and a teaspoon of honey to make a delicious nutritious filling smoothie for breakfast :) In the past, if you remember, I also found difficulties in feeling full after an optislim shake and I would have carbohydrate cravings, well I think if I have 2 slices of toast with vegemite or tomato on it I won't have these intense carbohydrate cravings - I did it the other day and I wasn't hungry again until about 3 hours later, in the past it's been like an hour later that I've been hungry and just wanting to down a loaf of bread. Wish me luck for tomorrow! I'm feeling totally positive, and I really think that I can keep this momentum going!

You're going really well, Yellowroses! I'm glad you got some sleep last night. If you want fewer calories and fat in your Jarrah but don't like making it with water could you substitute skim milk instead? Most people I know don't like skim milk in their cereal or coffee because it's too watery, but it could be the perfect solution here. And if you find yourself craving carbs and having issues with portion size have you considered trying low GI carbs? They keep you fuller for longer and I find it really makes a difference when it comes to the amount I eat.

Good luck! You're doing great!

What kind of carbs are low GI EWQ? Also, with my Jarrah, I make it with 3 parts water, 1 part milk, but trying to just have 4 parts water. I've done this in the past (when I used to drink coffee... I slowly weaned myself onto no milk whatsoever and no sugar). Watery doesn't really bother me when it comes to drinks - it's when my sandwich is soggy that I start to complain :p

OMG... I went to sleep at 3.30 last night, was so proud - but damn DH let me sleep in until 2.30pm!!! I told him to wake me up at 12pm at the very latest!!! Grr... So now I've missed my chance for the gym :( I know this sounds stupid, but I only like to go between 11am - 3pm because that's when there's little to no people there, and I can get in and get out of the changing rooms and the swimming pool and the gym in general without feeling like I'm being judged. So I'm forcing him to come for a bike ride with me tonight at about 10pm when it's nice and dark as a punishment :p Maybe now he'll remember to wake me up  (Yeah, I know, I had my alarm on too and I turned it off and went back to sleep - I rely on DH to make sure I'm awake when he's home especially when I'm trying to get my sleeping pattern in order!).

Going really well today! I just had my first meal of the day - my wonderful smoothie. OMG, seriously, this smoothie could not have been any better. It was YUM! Didn't even taste like a protein shake :) Also, I weighed myself when I woke up - 125.1kg!!! YAY! Gonna work super hard now because I really want to be in the 124s by Sunday! Will post further updates tonight...

Just as a side note, anyone ever read The Strange Case of Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde? I'm about 30 pages off of finishing and so far it is just awesome.

Low GI carbs take longer to digest so they keep you fuller longer. Because they are processed slowly they release their energy over a length of time, avoiding the 'sugar spikes' of processed carbs that see you satisfied for a little while then craving something sweet or starchy within an hour.

Here is a list of some low GI foods.

Natural Muesli
Porridge
Soya and Linseed bread
Wholegrain bread
Frozen Green Peas
Frozen sweet corn
Raw carrots
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Brown rice
Spaghetti
Sweet potato
Chickpeas
Red lentils

For more foods check out this site: The GI Diet - List of low GI foods

There are also low GI recipes on the site. It's important to note that by combining different foods you alter the GI content of the dish. For this reason you need to take fat content into consideration too and not just focus on the GI number. Because fat slows the digestion of carbs it actually lowers the GI of a food. So for instance potato crisps/chips are lower GI than baked potatoes, but it doesn't mean you should use potato chips as a diet food!

Thanks EWQ! Some of that food I can't eat unfortunately, but others I can so I'll definitely be putting them into my diet!

Today:

AF: CD 30.

Eating Habits: For breakfast I had a wonderful smoothie - banana, 200ml milk, ice, vanilla protein shake and honey. Lunch I had a weight watchers chicken spaghetti pesto. Dinner I had a glass of red wine, a half egg white/half regular egg omelette with fetta cheese, tomato, onion, mushroom, smoked salmon, avocado and natural yoghurt. I also had a bag of pitos (50g), 2 cups of Jarrah hot chocolate (no milk yay!) and some mallow bakes (they're these tiny little marshmallows that have virtually no calories). Total Calories: 1723.

Exercise Habits: None. I couldn't rope in DH to coming for a ride with me.

Thoughts/Feelings: I feel good that today I've managed to eat well. I'm feeling more and more stressed with each passing day. My assignment is slowly getting done, but I'm stressed over keeping up with my subjects, doing other assignments, exams coming up, trying to find the time to work out, not sleeping properly and too much, my birthday is coming up and I just found out that a friend of mine is bringing a person from high school who used to be really mean to me and call me fat. I feel good that I weigh 125.1kg, I was stressing that my weight was going to be absolutely through the roof because on Sunday I weighed myself and I was 126kg. I think maybe that was water weight or something, because it's not like I've restricted my calories enough to lose nearly a kilo in a couple of days! Life is just loading up on my shoulders!
