New Year -20 kgs to lose!

Postby hummingbird01 » Sun Jan 08, 2012 7:29 pm

hello. Have been reading the boards here and it felt like the right place to share my journey. I am a mum of two, 164cm and weighing in at 97 kgs. I was diagnosed with bipolar II last year, after thinking I just had depression and emotional eating issues. My condition is now managed with meds but i unfortunately gained back 17 kgs of the 30 kgs i lost the previous year!
I also have to have my gall-bladder removed later in the year -it's full of stones which the Drs suspect may have been caused by my yo-yo dieting and large amounts of weight gained/lost/gained.
I work long hours as a pre-school teacher, which has also created bad eating habits- starve/binge etc.
I'm in the midst of quitting smoking, have stopped the nightly glasses of wine ( mother's little helper ! ) and now am looking at trying to lose some weight!
i guess my first goal would be to get to 80 kgs ( again! ) and then ultimately 75 kgs. I hope to meet some of you here on the forum and look forward to sharing our stories. :)

Hi Hummingbird and welcome to the forum :)

Best of luck with your weightloss plans! Are you following a particular diet or plan? I think one of the most helpful things you can do it just take baby steps - break things down into chunks and it will make the whole process seem easier!

Keep us posted on how you're doing!

hello- thank you for your warm welcome and hello's. nice to meet you :)
As for my plans for this go round the weight loss trip- ATM its more an approach of cutting down/out the things I know have contributed to the gain in the first place! ie- like I said no drinkies ( wine inevitably ends up with cheese! ) , and controlling the binge cycle. Am making the classic healthy choices for meals- a bit of all the food groups with focus on fresh vegies and fruits. Lots of water- not diet coke. guess we all know the rules 8)
Will confess ( guiltily?) to dabbling with the idea of duromine -as i had great success with it years ago. But anyhow- we will see about that!
I race about all day in my job as teacher in a long day-care Centre- but really want to build in some good regular walking.
So that's the plan for me , for now!
catch up soon I hope.

Welcome Hummingbird.

I am on a journey to lose 25kg, 5 of which I have lost so far. I am a mother of 3 and I work as an administrator (so I don't move a lot through the day). I do try and walk 6km a day, around 5 or 6 days a week.

My dr prescribed me Duromine a few weeks ago and I have been on it for 2 weeks now. I had my gall bladder removed a few years ago as I had a stone in it that made me excessively ill. I have had thyroid issues for about 8 years now, and for the past 3 months I have been trying to lose weight. Until I started taking Duromine, I had lost very little.

I wish you every success!

hi-thanks Roblyssa and babylove. Interesting about your gall bladder roblyssa.I have stones also- doctor suspects from my losing/gaining/losing large amounts of weight in the last few years. when last on duromine i shed 32 kgs in 3 months. I am scheduled to have it removed some time this year- cant find any info whether gall stones and the painful symptoms are worsened by duromine? am going to try another week on my own steam anyhow.
Well on my analogue scales i was 97 kgs- today its reading 95kgs. But it is also TTOM , and i think i should get some digital scales. ( threw my last set out as they drove me mad ). I reckon i may have lost around 1 kg- safe guess. so let's say my weigh in for this week is 96 kgs.
Was just so terrified of getting to 100 kgs again. Glad I've at least stopped the gaining!
hope the week went well for everyone. :)

Congratulations on your loss! It's really annoying when you've had a good week and TTOM comes along and ruins the result on the scales. I'm sure you'll see your work reflected on the scales in a few days time :) Keep it up!

Well done Hummingbird, and I agree, go get yourself a good pair of digital scales!

Keep it up and you will never see triple figures on those scales again!!

hello -it's weigh in day for me.
so got the digital scales- and remember why they annoy me!
I saw my weight fluctuate wildly over the week- seriously it varies by 5 kgs every couple of days. My body is weird!
anyhow, today i am weighing in at 95.1 kg.
So i will accept that as a loss!
It is the greatest relief to be stabilising the weight anyway- looking forward to betting back into the 80's.
Hope its a good week for you all!
