Songs that mean something to you

Postby electrongirl » Mon Dec 03, 2007 7:57 pm

Got a song that when you hear it, memories come flooding back?

Or it makes you cry, happy, sad, scared?

Mine are:

Every Breathe You Take - The Police, reminds me of my mum, she used to sing it while she was cleaning or cooking when I was a kid. When I hear it I miss her so bad!

Eagle Rock - Daddy Cool, another one that reminds me of my mum. I remember dancing with her to it at many a party. This is the song I always wanted to dance with my mum at my wedding ( I didn't get to because I didn't have a reception)

Copperhead Road - I can't listen to this song. It reminds me of someone who did something to me when I was young. It creeps me out.

Sweet Child of Mine - Guns N Roses, reminds me of high school. Love it!
Nikki - Aussie girl living in the USA with her soul mate. My blog: http://aus2usa.blogspot.com/

Some of mine are:

Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers - it was my wedding song
Heaven - Bryan Adams - reminds me of spending quality time with my hubbie
Little Arrows - Little Richard - this is an oldie but it reminds me of my dad (who passed away in 1988). Everytime I hear it - it makes me both happy (because of the dancing we used to do to it) and sad (because I miss him every day).
2008 - my year to be great!!

'Coney Island Baby' by Tom Waits. When my lovely fiance and I started dating it was a long distance relationship. He told me that every time he drove to my place he listened to it because he said it reminded him of me. Awwwwwww!

I have so many that reflect times in my life: here are a few:

"Far away"- Nickleback... my ex told me to listen to it as he was away in the army and the lyrics reflected feelings... to this day i still can't listen to it.

"Dry Eye"- Paul Brandt... break up song

"Eighteen"- Adam Brand... Reminds me of my 18th Birthday when Dad had the radio play it for me.

Mine's similar to your's Ally, Here without you always reminds me of when my boy was overseas with the army.

Travelling Soldier by the Dixie Chicks is also another of mine, my best friend sung it at school years ago. And Rock and Roll All Night was our year 12 song so that always reminds me of school too.

I actually have lots of songs that remind me of different things now that I think about it!

I have quite a few... I have an emotional dependancy on songs lol...

Live: all over you and Queen: You're my best friend
reminds me of my BF :D

Placebo: Black eyed
reminds me of my ex and stuff that happened between us

The grates: Lies are much more fun
reminds me of myself :)

Avril Lagvigne: Nobody's Home and The Cardigans: War
reminds me of when I was a teenager and I was going through depression

David Bowie: John I'm only dancing and The Beatles: Yellow Submarine
just makes me smile and feel soooo happy! :D

Billy Joel: We didn't start the fire
reminds me of my dad because when I was like 7 or 8 he informed me of the meaning behind every lyric... my dad knows his history... :)

Easily the most meaningful song in my life is called "Boxing" by Ben Folds Five. While it's actually about Muhammad Ali contemplating retirement, the emotional themes still seem like they're taken from my own life.

Howard, the strangest things
Have happened lately when I
Take a good swing at all my dreams
They pivot and slip
I drop my fists and they're back, laughing
Howard...

My intention's become not to lose what I've won
Ambition has given way to desperation and I...
I've lost the fight from my eyes

Boxing's been good to me, Howard
Now I'm told "You're growing old"
The whole time you knew
A couple of years I'd be through
Has boxing been good to you?

Howard, now I confess
I'm scared and lonely and tired
They seem to think I'm made of clay
Another day
I'm not cut out for this
I just know what to say
I say...

Boxing's been good to me, Howard
Now I'm told "You're growing old"
The whole time you knew
A couple of years I'd be through
Has boxing been good to you?

Well sometimes I punch myself hard as I can
Yelling "Nobody cares"
Hoping someone will tell me how wrong I am

Boxing's been good to me, Howard
Now I'm told "You're growing old"
The whole time you knew
A couple of years I'd be through
Has boxing been good?
Has boxing been good?
Has boxing been good?
