What are your most exciting food discoveries?

Postby Fiona25 » Sat Mar 01, 2008 8:16 am

Just wondering what low fat/carb/cal food you have made that you consider to be a great discovery?!

Mine are:

1. Slim secrets bars - LOVE THEM!

2. Pita chips - I don't have them often but when I do a small serve with 80% fat free philli dip goes down a treat!

3. Atkins 1g carb choc bars. They're so good but very expensive.

4. Vogels soy and linseed bran - yummy with yoghurt and bumps up my fibre with a whopping 14grams per serve!

5. Yoplait no fat for me yogurt range. Banana and creamy honey, berry brulee, cheescake, they have great flavours and only 70calories per 175 grams :D

6. Noble rise wholemeal bread. It is filling, yummy and very high in fibre

7. Light and creamy - either the sticks or the ice-cream bars, only 70-100 cals and they taste great

8. E'sapore low carb pasta. I prob only have it 1-2x a month but its great to be able to have some pasta every now and then without eating an insane amount of carbs.

9. WW chips and bacon. Who would've thought you could have bacon AND chips and lose weight?!?

10. 100 calorie wraps. You can put lots of yummy but healthy fillings inside on bread that is only 100 calories - great stuff!

Ok, your turn :P
Saying goodbye to calorie counting AND scales for a while.

Just enjoying the new and improved healthy me and embracing my new lifestyle!

Oh yeah I try to avoid as much processed food as possible.

But I love soy and linseed bread, porridge, 100% natural peanut butter, gluten free wraps, pumpernickel bread, baked beans, frozen veggies zapped in the microwave with sweet chilli sauce (yum yum) oh and yummy mushroom pizzas (Thanks Em for the recipe)

Went grocery shopping last night and my trolley was filled with lots of lean meats, fruit and veggies, lots of spices and few low fat sauces in jars for curries and stir fry. Brown Basmati Rice, wholemeal pasta, beens, lentils, chickpeas and my treat was Bree cheese with water crackers.

Had them last night with 2 glasses of wine - was a yummy treat

Dammit now I have to go to the supermarket.... so many good ideas

Mine at the moment:
Tuna and Spinach Patties (dead simple recipe)
6 egg whites (I use powdered egg white, so much easier)
1 small tin of tuna
1/3 of a 250g packet of frozen spinach
a small amout of minced garlic and/or onion powder
Mix it all up and fry in a pan. Can be eaten hot or cold
(900kJ, over 40g protein, no fat and about 5g carbs... AND they're so filling you really only need to eat half that amount! :D )

Well i have discovered some great recipes and experimented with things that i have absolutely loved like"
Minestrone soup
mixed vegies cooked on a grill plate then just drizzle sweet chilli sauce (sometimes add some chicken)
broccoli (love it)
Chicken parma under the grill
frittata
i like the ww icecream, the choc mudslide, it fixes my chocolate cravings. Also i never used to eat cereal unless it was something like cocoa pops but now i eat the special K advantage and i love it.

Okay gotta stop i am now starting to drool.

I just made a discovery at the supermarket at lunchtime..... Musashi P30 RTD. I see them all the time but never picked one up to have a look. NO carbs, NO fat, 30g protein and 120 cals. How can you go wrong with that??? (Well, I haven't tasted it yet, so I may need to retract that comment later, but... 8) )
