It depends Holly. A lot of people swear by saving a few calories where you can, in which case Equal (or other artificial sweeteners) is a good choice. However there have been studies recently which show a direct link between weight gain
and artificial sweeteners. The current theory is that when the body eats something sweet it prepares itself for a huge dose of calories. When it doesn't get those calories it actually makes you feel hungrier so you'll eat more, thus giving the body the calories it was expecting.

If you want to switch to a lower calorie sweetener but don't like the idea of man-made chemicals then you might want to look at Stevia. It's a natural zero cal sweetener extracted from the leaves of a South American plant. You can find it in any health food store. I use it all the time and find it much better tasting than Equal.
