Postby yummymummy » Thu Mar 15, 2007 3:28 pm

hey guys where do you get ur protien bars from and which ones are the beat ones to get, on the days that I work I eat lunch at 11 my tea break is at 5 and when I get home at 10pm Im starved but I tend to pick at crap like rice crackers I thought maybe a protien bar would be a nice filling treat for a change-and the only protien Im getting lately is from dairy or tuna so maybe I need a boost

I used to get the proteinFX bars from woolworths! They had like 25gms protein, hardly any carbs or calories, and tasted exactly like a mint chocolate bar, I had to stop getting them as I was eating like 5 a day! They are just beautiful!!!

I get the HPLC bars, also available in the supermarket. They're pretty big so I usually have to cut them into smaller portions (usually!!! ). One 100g bar has 45g of protein and only 6g carbs. Also the Aussie bodies Protien delites are basically the same just half the size :D

I get the Horley's Carbless ones. OMG, you have to try them! They dont have that protein bar taste, if u know what I mean. They taste good because the outside is ACTUAL milk chocolate. I get them from Evelyn Faye Nutrition if you're in Melbourne. They have a website too http://www.completehealth.com.au/Aspx/Home.aspx
or this one is good too http://www.australiansportsnutrition.co ... up=Horleys
They are only 180cals each and they have about 18.4g protein.

They are yummy! :) I'm only going to buy them one at a time though as I can see myself liking them a little too much :P

I can't wait to try them too! Will try to pick some up this week. I also need some more protein in my diet - it's always lacking according to Mr Calorie King...

I haven't posted for a while but I noticed your questions about the best protein bars. I actually lost 20kg eating 3 small meals a day and a couple of protein bar snacks. The best ones by far (and I did all the research) are the ones that are being shown on the homepage of this website (Slim Secrets bars). Unlike the ones you mentioned they are low in both carbs and fat and they are the best tasting ones I have tried (the Mintabolism Boost tastes like a peppermint crisp without the fat or calories). Oh and they are also cheaper then the ones you all suggested which helps when you eat 2 a day.

its a pity the slim secrets bars are impossible to find. Anyone know somewhere online I could get them.

What about the Atkins bars? The have a delicious Caramel nut bar I love!

Vanessa I buy them from the health section in my Coles and from Boost Juice but I think you can buy them online at http://www.completehealth.com.au
They are so much better then Atkins as they are lower in fat and I think cheaper too.

My friend Liz N will be selling them on her website which should be up and running by the end of the week.

high protein snacks/meals on the go

Postby ProbioEK » Wed Apr 11, 2007 11:38 am

I used to be a BIG protein bar person averaging 2 a day and consuming 3 normal meals. and i lost a bit of weight - but then nothing.... then i found meal replacments especially a new one called Celebrity Slim, the difference was that i'd replace 2 meals with a shake ie breakfast + lunch. then i'd have a normal dinner and inbetween each meal i would have a snack ie nuts/yoghurt/fruit etc. and it works fantastically!! i have droped 7kg in the first 15days - the results are much quicker and the program still allows you to eat real food. they are also much cheaper then protein bars and you are also consuming more water over the day with them - which is great for increasing weight loss. have you tried them?

I only use protein bars as an emergency thing which I keep in my bag. Its not good to have them everyday - I would say about twice a week is OK. Food protein choices are much better for you such as fish, lean meat, cottage cheese etc etc.
They are handy though as a portable thing - and protein powder and protein crunch is great for a protein boost to cereal/yoghurt/whatever.
