Whey Protein

Postby Butterfly_Dawn » Thu Aug 30, 2007 4:09 pm

Hiya everyone.
Now, from what I hear, the main ingredient in the shakes like in TF etc is whey protein powder. I just bought some whey protein powder from the health food shop (just loose pure whey protein). And apparently (according to google) it's supposed to be really beneficial in evening out blood sugar levels and building muscle and metabolising fat.... anyone have any input?

Also, if anyone has used it (the pure stuff rather than the flavoured shakes/sachet things), can I just sprinkle it on my breakky for example?

Also, would say, 1tp be about right per day? - they all give grams and stuffed if I'm working out how many grams a tsp is

Good question! I am just sticking my nose in because I'm curious to know how it goes for you and if it's tasteless? I started a topic a while ago about protein powder because I know I need more of it in my diet and then the one day I did get to into a health food store, the worker there completely ignored me and chatted up the yummy mummy

Yeah, that's a bit of waffle... anyhoo, please let me know if it has a taste/texture. I am very fussy about the texture of food.
Just keep moving! And don't be lazy...

it's pretty much like powdered milk to me. So much so I actually wondered if the shop did something dodge selling one thing as another - I don't think so though.

I suppose it's just like any other protein powder. I use one with a few other things added but it's good. It's flavoured so I just add 2tbsp to 1 cup milk. I think you could just add it to food...why not. Maybe mix it into some yoghurt or in your cereal and milk in the morning. I put some in my oats once but you have to then add extra water or milk otherwise it's just like rubber cement.

Did it come with a scoop?

Ideally, you should eat 1gram of protein for every pound of weight.
I reckon you might need more than 1tbps a day? Also, you have to drink lots more water when your having more protein or it could be bad for your kidneys.

no I didn't get a packet so no scoop, I just got plain loose whey protein from ahealth food shop. I have read that most Aussies get well and truly enough protein from their diet, so I'm just looking for a little extra boost while my legs build up with the running.

I did read that it can be harmful for your kidleys and liver if you have too much, which is also why I'm going with the 1tsp idea. But good idea with the water, I will go and drink a bottle now. :D
