How much is too much?

Postby HappyBella55 » Fri Sep 21, 2007 11:36 am

ok guys another bread question.

My mum was on at me for eating too much bread this morning.

Some days I have four slice. Either 2 slice for breaky and always 2 slices (with peanut butter & honey) for my afternoon snack.

I get so hunger around the 4pm mark and I usually go for a run/walk in the early evening so I figure this is ok right :?:

Am I eating too much bread :?:

On Ck it pushes my carb limit way over but I'm not worried about this.

I'm not scared of carbs cos my diet is mostly good carbs i.e lots of fresh fruit and vegies and legumes.

oh yeah thought I would also mention that it is either wholemeal bread or 9 grain bread that I eat.

I don't like the taste of white bread - yucky :x

*waits for Bread-Monster to appear*

hehe well, lately I've had anywhere from 4-6 slices of soy & linseed bread in a day... i'm addicted! I think the issue is more about what you put on your bread than the bread itself (provided it isn't white bread which isn't very good for you). If you have lots of jam, tuna or cheese, etc I think that's a lot of bread, but if you only have butter or margarine that's fine.

Yeah id be more worried about what you put on them..

Maybe instead of honey and PB you could have vegemite or promite? Or just honey. Cause they add up to quite a few calories.

Or you could try a lower calories bread? Country Split wholemeal is only 470 kj for two slices, it is a lot lighter than normal breads.

I dont believe the whole new hype about 'bread is bad, dont eat it!' a few years back the WW angle was called 'Fat n Fibre' where the rules were - over 20g of fibre a day, under 20g on fat and be sensible with sugar. I lost stacks of weight and kept it off til other circumstances kicked in and I practically lived on grainy bread and pasta!
I think you can have as much bread as you want so long as you factor it in with the other things that you eat and most importantly - are you losing? If so, then who cares what the latest diet books are saying about it?
I'm on a low carb diet at the moment, but only coz I'm part of a study. I'm usually on WW and when I am, I love my bread and never fail to lose weight if I just stick to my points.
Life is too important to be taken seriously!

I feel reassured thanks guys :D

If I'm having toast for breakfast I have vegemite no butter - I don't like the taste of the butter mum buys Devendale its to creamy tasting - eek

I factor 1 tablespoon of 100% natural peanut butter into my daily cal limits. I won't be giving peanut butter up I love it too much and its all about moderation not deprivation lol otherwise I would binge of the stuff if I deprived myself too much

yeah I don't like any other type way too sweet.

My problem used to be that I would slather it on a bread (about 3 times the serving size  lol)

You're fine, Bella :) 4 slices is completely normal, they recommend 2-3 serves of wholegrains a day, and 2 slices is 1 serve :)

Mmm 100% Peanut Butter is the BEST! Once you try it you never go back cos you can taste all the yucky additives and preservatives in the Light PB!!!
