Got a house!!

Postby Butterfly_Dawn » Wed Aug 16, 2006 8:22 pm

yep...bought a house. Or at least, they have approved our offer, but haven't yet signed, which they will do tomorrow!! We've got all the finance sorted and a conveyancer lined up so as soon as they sign, it'll just be a few weeks till we can move in!!

So now I am engaged with a mortgage!!

Congrats Tegan! :D

Things are certainly moving at a good pace. No wonder you haven't been around just finding a house takes so much time.

yep. Still waiting on them signing the contract. One of the beneficiaries lives across the other side of the state so they have to post it to them to sign and then post it back

Then there's the 30 days of conveyancing.

We were very busy for a while with all the looking etc, and I'm still working on my sisters scrapbook too. But I promise I will try to get on here at least once or twice per week.

they've signed it over. Now 14 days finance approval, then 30 days settlement period. So 1 and a half months and we'll be able to have the key

Takes heaps frigging longer that I anticipated

sorry for the late reply....

I was a deceased estate (old guy who had lived in the house with him mum until his mum died and then he recently died in hospital). VERY run down and built in 1964 (housing dept apparently) with ORIGINAL kitchen :( . But has fantastic potential!!

Structurally fantastic, floorboards are unpolished (crappy carpets) but immaculate condition - like they were put in yesterday! Weatherboards desperately need a paint and the shed needs a rebuild. Both kitchen and bathroom need redoing but basically it's all cosmetic, only a little cutting and shutting to be done.

Garden is not much to speak of, but then it's only going to get trampled on during the renovating.

It's not in the best area, but the suburb is on the improve rather than decline and we've spoken to most of the neighbours who seem great.

As yet we have not seen anything better in the price range - which it good because it was all we could afford. And it's about 40 min cycle on the bike track from the city according to the neighbours who also cycle.

All in all, we're chuffed!

That's great Tegan. When are you looking to move in?

It should be a lot of fun and hard work renovating as well as rewarding. Remember to take before and after pics so you can really appreciate the difference when you're finished.

Yep, it's gonna be great - A project that isn't going to just lose money (like, say, HIS CAR!!!).

Settlement date is 29th September. We'll probably wait until the end of our current lease (start November) to move in - do the floors and paint inside walls first.
