How to reduce cholesterol?

Postby Shay » Sun Nov 22, 2009 9:22 pm

Hi lovelies!

So I did a blood test, and my cholesterol was 6.5, which is pretty high. Strange thing is my eating is quite good and i exercise a fair bit, and have done so for a long time. I do have a strong history of high cholesterol in my family though.

So any tips besides the obvious of eating well (especially fibre) and exercising? Are there certain foods that'll help reduce cholesterol etc?
Had my baby girl Leah on 13/12/10!

Hi :D Fish oil caps or liquid is worth a try. I work in a Chemist and we reccomend them all of the time. Just make sure if you decide to try it that you take the propper dose, as there is no point having it if you do not have the therapeutic dose.
You mentioned fibre, and I've also heard that having a dose of metamucil each day can help. Also, what about the spread you can use instead of butter. I think it's pretty expensive as far as butter goes, but hey it's worth a go.

Hope that helps a bit :D You should go and chat to your Doc or Pharmacist, I'm sure they will be able to give you lots of suggestions :)

I recently found that my cholesterol was also a bit high, the tips here will for sure be of help. Think I´m gona cut even more on the red meat, I read somewhere it is not that good.
Do you think these products for drinking that say they lower your cholesterol are worth? Was thinking of giving it a try...

My BIL has to eat a low cholesterol diet due to a heart attack, and he has the milk and margarine that helps lower cholesterol, he has only one small serve of meat a day, with red meat only 2 or 3 times a week, does not add oil to cooking... not sure what else he does, but his diet is super healthy these days

I tried that cholesterol-lowering butter and stopped eating eggs, and it worked! I also increased water and fibre. About 3 months later my cholesterol was at a healthy level :D

Cholesterol are seems to be a biggest problem in human body which results to gain more fat and there are many ways to reduce cholesterol but the best process for reducing cholesterol from human body is to maintain low fat diet and use soluble fiber which can reduce absorption of cholesterol into your bloodstream.

Eating raw fruits and vegetables whether it is in the form of salads or drinking soup is a good way of warding off high cholesterol. Leafy vegetables and green salads are a good way to start the day.
