meat isn't the only source of iron too by the way. Green leafy vegetables (e.g. spinach...go popeye) and red kidney beans are good sources (if you combine with vitamin C say from capsicum it absorbs better too)

Wat was your iron level?
I had extremely low iron stores (8) and had to have a transusion to help me. Some people cant absorb iron to well through food or tablets.
Another yummy trick is warm milo and milk. Contains more iron than red meat if u can believe that.(Cold milo dont work).
Im an expert on this... been through it a far bit.
But to me sounds like you have a virus. I had the same thing not long ago. Same symptoms of being pregnant it was scary!!
