When i was 16 my doctor suggested i go on the pill to help with my acne (i got it pretty bad) and it worked for me. He had me try the medicated creams first but i hated them. If face washes don't do much for you like they didn't for me see what your doctor suggests. Your just gonna have to keep trying things until you find what works for you.

Usually people face this kind of problems and are given various suggestions that really do not cover the basic problem that need to be tackled with. The skin really needs to tackled smoothly and you just cannot apply products to it and hope that you can be fine with that. I use [link removed] which has Vitamin B5 that helps to reduce sebum and make your skin free from acne. I really enjoyed discovering this product as it has made my skin better.

I've had acne for ten years and tried just about everything, from cheap stuff from priceline, to medication, to expensive products from Clinique and none of them worked. I know it sounds too good to be true, but I'm using Proactiv and it really does help. My skin has improved so much, I can barely believe it is me when I look in the mirror these days. If you don't want to commit to it and are a bit unsure (like I was), buy some off ebay and give it a try. My skin went a bit dry and itchy at first, but once my skin got used to it, it got so much better! Good Luck :D

I'm one of those really annoying people who never washes off their make up or tones and moisturises and never gets pimples...sorry

The only thing I contribute to this is i wear very little make up (my foundation is a tinted moisturiser with an spf 30) with a tiny bit of matte powder, I drink LOTS of water and eats my 2 pieces of fruit and 5 veg a day. I don't smoke and drink very rarely these days.

The water is an absolute must...i call it my miracle juice!

Not a big help...sorry!

I used to have a really bad acne problem.

I tackled it in two ways - both internally and externally.

My doctor placed me on the pill (which has other advantages, of course), Dianne. This one can get expensive, you can expect about $55-$65 per 3 months, or they have a cheaper alternative which sells for around $27 and does the same thing.

Externally, I use Proactiv. Now, before everyone rolls their eyes and thinks, "Gimmick!', it actually works.

Personally, I think if you have severe acne, the pill is something to consider, most of the time acne cannot be treated externally only, eg Clea'n'Clear, or one of those readily available supermarket products. It needs to be medically treated for effective results....there may be other factors which are causing your acne which can be treated by your doc.

All the best,

I also use Proactiv and think it's great! It has cleared my skin up and haven't seen a pimple in a long time.

could it be that your skin is just sensitive? i've heard that trying to treat your pimples with harsh cleansers/acne washes/toners etc can just aggravate and inflame sensitive skin, causing more pimples! instead try cleansing your face with a gentle and sensitive cleanser, spot treat the pimples, then moisturise/sunscreen as needed.

skin and pimples can be aggravated by different people in different ways, eg proactive might be good for one person, cause an outburst for another. you really have to experiment for yourself :? For me, water is a big influence on how nice my skin will be to me :)

I have used proactiv and I found it doesn't work. I've had quite bad acne since I was around 16, My doctor suggested going on the pill and it got worse.
The only thing that worked for me is a gel called eryacne and some medication (I can't remember what it was but it wasnt roaccutane)
Since finishing the medication ive been washing my face thoroughly and religiously every day as well as eating well and keeping hydrated, has gotten my skin back to normal. As well as sweating!! if I don't exercise for a week or so my pores begin clogging and the pimples are back!!

Jaz, how long did you use Proactiv?

In terms of, did you use it consistently for a month or two?

I used a whole bottle of each step. I just found that it really burnt my skin. Admittedly I may not have used it for long enough. But now I use a random assortment; Cleanser: Avon's Anew, Toner: Clinque anti- blemish, and Arbonne rejuvanating cream for all the darker dots left behind from my long gone pimples!!

I keep hearing so much good feedback about Proactive, I just recently bought myself the set of 4 bottles and I haven't started using them yet, but by following some of the tips in the booklet I have found my existing products have improved my skin.

I've had bad skin also for 10 years or more, tried the pill, supermarket brands, aloe Vera the works!
The only things that seem to really work for me is

1. Avoid alcohol (I always break out after a binge night)
2. Drink plenty of water (which you will be doing with your lifestyle change anyway)
3. Don't squeeze
4. Use cleanser (oil of olay for blemish skin), toner (C&C) and moisturiser (oil of olay) twice a day (One thing I learnt here was not to scrub, as it irritates more)
5. Wash off your make up off before bed.

All these things seem to work for me, as well as maintaining a good diet, I eat plenty of salads etc. The Proactiv booklet also suggests using oil free make up, which I will be doing when I've used my stuff up.

Hope this helps

Has anyone actually came off proactive yet? Because my friend had bad acne, (almost fixed by the pill) and her skin specialist told her not to go near the proactive due to the oil and dirt building up under the skin with the proactive causing it not to come out, then when people go off the stuff ur face breaks out really bad.

I just use Avene products due to my skin specialist recommending them (i get eczema). I would suggest you go to a skin specialist because pimples can be caused by a number of different things, ie, allergic reactions, rashes, skin sensitivity, poor cleansing routines, bad diet anything!

oh,it is actually problem of the acne,

Oh! Don’t get upset, I think it is problem of every second girl next to you. There are many ways that can help you to cure the disease but a way that suits you and is not one of the scams to cure them should be adopted. It is better to refer to an online guide
For acne treatment that can make you aware of the pros and cons of the different ways and provide you a better solution. This will help you to balance yourself.

All the best!!!

I had acne, and the pill was the only thing that helped.
As for something to put on them. I discovered that Calamine lotion would dry them up but was soothing to the skin at the same time. I would put a big bob of it on the pimple before bed, let it dry and sleep with it.
