Fragrance of the day......

Postby Shalimar » Thu Oct 16, 2008 10:17 am

Inspired by the perfume talk I decided to start a fragrance of the day thread, all you have to do is post what perfume you are wearing for the day and if you like you can add some notes and the year it was released. I may be the only one that posts in here but thats ok, it may inspire me to renew my acquaintance with some that I haven't worn for a while or it may even inspire someone to try something different.

My fotd is Christian Diors Miss Dior (about 4 days straight now) with notes of lily of the valley, gardenia, carnation, jasmine and my beloved oakmoss.
Miss Dior was first released in 1947.

I am rather fussy and tend to wear the same perfumes a lot, although i do have quite a few. I am currently (and often) wearing Covet, the Sarah Jessica Parker perfume. Not because of it's association to her, but simply because I was given a sample card by a lady at Myer one day, shoved it in my handbag, and when emptying it two days later, loved the smell! I know quite a few people that dont like it, but perhaps that's why i do, because it's a little different!

Today I have gone for Balenciagas Cristobal, released in 1998 and has notes of fig, honey, jasmine and freesia, unfortunately now discontinued but I do have a back up bottle so not all is lost. To me this one is pure class in glass.

hi shalimar :D perfume is so exciting! have you ever bought a bottle without smelling it? i feel really tempted to do that sometimes. i think, even if i didn't wear it... the bottles are usually so beautiful and like little treasures that i'd still love owning it. isn't that indulgent  it's a good thing i'm broke...

i'm wearing lolita by lolita lempicka, the first scent i chose for myself. it's a very sweet fragrance, to me there are notes of burnt sugar and vanilla that are deepened by the anise. it works well with my chemistry i think! boys compliment it (if you count my father  )

have a beautiful day

Hi Pandora, I have had quite a few blind buys, I just go on recommendations of others and reviews, I know what I like and what I don't. Luckily I haven't picked a dud one yet :) .
Sometimes I think you just have to take the plunge and buy unsniffed as it is too hard to get samples in Australia and Myers, DJs and the like only stock the mainstream stuff, I figure if something is not really me I can always put it on Ebay :D

I have Lolita Lempicka as well and I love the liquorice/anise notes, it's gorgeous.
If you like the liquorice/ vanilla thing try and get your hands on some Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille , it is to die for, it is expensive ($150 for a 50 ml bottle) as far as I know you can only get it at Mecca cosmetica but you can order online or find a shop near you but it would, in my opinion, be too overpowering in the warmer months.

I think I will opt for Jean Charles Brosseaus' Ombre Rose, released in 1981 with notes of rose, honey, vanilla and musk.

I'm going to have to start taking notice of more perfumes when I'm at the shops Sue so i know what all of yours smell like!

I'm wearing Pink Sugar today. A very very sweet perfume, not available anymore as far as I'm aware. Was one I got years ago in high school, very fresh. Literally smells fairy floss like. Something kinda fun about this one I think.
