Hair Loss Ends Here

Postby Dolly » Mon Oct 30, 2006 12:50 pm

There are many things that can contribute to hair loss besides genetics, medical treatments and animal free diets.
The specialists always say the 3 main causes are a lack of iron, or an imbalanced thyroid hormone or a lack of protein.
The right amount of protein for you to consume daily is to first work out what your ideal weight should be.
An example is, if your ideal weight is 71 kilograms you should eat 71 grams of protein per day.

But hair loss is much more complex than that.
It seems that in cases of deficiency, we have to replace the protein but not all of it should come from dietary sources of meat, seeds, dairy, soy or nuts, it just wouldn't be enough to make our hair regrow.
You need to also consume a specific kind of protein called KERATIN (the hard protein found in the composition of hair, nails, hooves, horns, wool, fur and claws)
Other than eating these gross things to get the keratin back into our bodies, we can do it by simply purchasing a packet of gelatin (just don't ask what's in gelatin or it might throw you off)

Buying a packet of jello (jelly) wouldn't contain quite enough keratin to return our lovely locks
but by purchasing a packet of gelatin powder and consuming a rounded tablespoon per day (3 grams of protein) and mixing it with hot water and a little fruit juice to make a flavorsome thick jelly, it should definitely bring back your keratin protein starved hair over time (it will also make your nails grow stronger and help you sleep better too)

Thanks for that Dolly. I wonder if that would work for mum. Although she is on Ceratin (sp) for her psoriasis. It can't hurt to give it a try can it??

Thanks for that Dolly - great info! I have lost half of the hair that I had when I was little, it just keeps falling out :(

I eat tonnes of protein (well over 50g a day) and have never had a problem with my iron levels. Might need to start eating gelatine. What is in it though???

It must be bad if it can't be mentioned on here...

It is truly better not to think about it.

Basically it is cows hooves (didn't know about the horses Dolly) Apparently you can get a seaweed one from health shops, but I don't know if it will have the same effect, might be something to look into?

Here we go... sorry to do this but...

Note: Gelatine is obtained by boiling skin, tendons, ligaments or bones with water, from cattle and pigs. It is used in many cosmetics as well as in confectionary, yoghurt, ice cream, marshmallow, jelly, vitamin capsules etc.

Here's some vege jelly  vege gelatine
Ingredients do not look hopeful...

Maybe it was better to not have thought about it!
