Chickpeas

Postby Ally » Wed Oct 25, 2006 12:59 pm

Talking of chick peas does any one know how you make your own chick nuts?? They are really yummy, but often I can't have the ones in the shop because of the additives affecting my asthma. I just need to know how to prepare them for the oven and what temp etc. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it!! Thanks

I have been wondering how to make the roasted chick peas but I am not sure if they are the same thing that you are talking about Ally. I used to get them sometimes on the lite n easy plan as one of the arvo snacks.

I'm thinking drain a can of chickpeas and dry them off with paper towels as best you can. A light spray of oil and some seasoning and into the oven on a moderate temperature. of course I have absolutely no idea if this would work and I did look for a recipe for you but couldn't find one. LOL and look what I found...

INGREDIENTS
1 (12 ounce) can chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pinch salt
1 pinch garlic salt
1 pinch cayenne pepper
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
Blot chickpeas with a paper towel to dry them. In a bowl, toss chickpeas with olive oil, and season to taste with salt, garlic salt, and cayenne pepper, if using. Spread on a baking sheet, and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until browned and crunchy. Watch carefully the last few minutes to avoid burning.
