Potato Gratin Recipe

Often the challenge of finding tasty dishes that are appropriate for a weight loss diet are to find accompaniments or sides that add flavour and excitment to the main part of a dish without adding a whole lot of extra calories and fat.

This Potato Gratin recipe can help with that challenge. Low in fat and very tasty, this potato gratin makes a perfect accompaniment to fish, beef, chicken, pork or whatever.

This recipe is low fat and a good source of protein.

Healthy Dessert Recipe :  Potato Gratin

Recipe Serves:

This Recipe Serves 6.

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 700g New Potatoes with skin on sliced evenly
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1 cup salt reduced chicken stock
  • 2.5 cups (300g) low fat evaporated milk
  • 4 slices short cut bacon all fat removed
  • 250g reduced fat tasty cheese

Recipe Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
  2. In a large oven proof dish layer bottom with sliced potatoes
  3. Spread garlic over 1st layer of potatoes and half bacon.  Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Sprinkle with 1/3 cheese and continue layering potatoes, cheese and bacon.
  5. Finish layer with cheese on top and season with pepper.
  6. In a bowl combine stock and milk and pour over dish.
  7. Bake for 1 hour until golden brown and tender.
