About
At Help Yourself, we are here to work with you — not just tell you what to eat. Our dietitians take the time to understand what foods or lifestyle habits might be triggering your symptoms, and will guide you step by step through managing them in a way that fits your life. We provide evidence-based nutrition support tailored to each individual's needs.
Beyond simply advising on food, we guide clients to make sustainable changes, develop a positive relationship with nutrition, and build confidence in their ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle for life. Our dietitians have completed additional training in Motivational Interviewing and Counselling, ensuring they can support behaviour change with empathy, clarity, and practical strategies. We also support gut health in athletes, pregnancy-related gut symptoms, and offer culturally sensitive, person-centred care including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Approach: Collaborative, evidence-based, empathetic and practical. Person-centred, non-prescriptive (nutrition guides rather than rigid meal plans), supportive of sustainable long-term change rather than short-term dieting.
Weight Loss Approach
Evidence-based, personalised nutrition care focused on sustainable behaviour change, building a positive relationship with food, developing healthy habits, and long-term lifestyle change rather than short-term dieting. Uses Motivational Interviewing and counselling techniques to support behaviour change. Addresses food noise, appetite cues, emotional eating, plateaus, and nutritional deficiencies.
Provides dietetic support through collaboration with NUYU Newcastle, a medical weight loss clinic. Dietitians support clients at various stages of their weight loss journey including those managing medication-related gut symptoms. GLP-1 medication prescribing is outside dietitian scope; support is nutritional only.
