Achievements & Roles
Procedure Information
Weight Management▼
In conjunction with the renowned OClinic team of multidisciplinary health professionals, offering the most comprehensive Medical and Surgical Weight Management Program in Australia. Whether considering medications or surgical options, or needing a revisional procedure, all programs are fully supported by a highly experienced in-house team of dietitians, bariatric physicians, and psychologists.
Hiatal Hernia Repair▼
A hiatal hernia occurs when the upper part of the stomach pushes up through the diaphragm into the chest. A/Prof Craig Taylor uses the latest laparoscopic keyhole techniques to provide lasting symptom relief, overnight hospital stay, and faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery.
Gallbladder Removal (Cholecystectomy)▼
Cholecystectomy is typically performed using laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, which involves four small incisions. The procedure takes about one hour under general anaesthesia. The gallbladder is retracted, and the cystic duct and artery are clipped and divided to remove the organ.
Anti-reflux Surgery▼
A/Prof Taylor specialises in diagnosing and treating reflux and heartburn, offering assessments including endoscopy and functional testing. Care plans may include lifestyle changes, medication, or minimally invasive anti-reflux surgery, aiming to improve comfort and protect oesophageal health.
Abdominal & Groin Hernia Repair▼
Abdominal and groin hernias (including inguinal and femoral types) commonly develop due to a weakness in the abdominal wall combined with sudden increases in pressure. A/Prof Taylor performs all hernia repairs using advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques, providing patients with a rapid recovery, minimal discomfort, and a strong, long-lasting repair.
Heller Myotomy (Achalasia Treatment)▼
Heller myotomy is a surgical procedure to open the tight sphincter muscle (LES) by cutting the thick outer muscle tissue between the esophagus and stomach. This is usually followed by a partial fundoplication to prevent reflux following the surgery. The surgery allows food to pass easily into the stomach.
Upper Endoscopy (Gastroscopy)▼
An upper endoscopy is a procedure used to visually examine the upper gastrointestinal tract. It is performed as an outpatient procedure, using a thin, flexible camera that is gently passed through the mouth. During the examination, small tissue samples (biopsies) can be taken if needed.
Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery▼
A/Prof Taylor performs a wide range of upper gastrointestinal procedures, including surgery on the pancreas, liver, spleen, adrenal glands, and mesenteric vessels. All operations are conducted with precision, utilising minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques whenever appropriate to enhance early patient recovery.
