Achievements & Roles
Procedure Information
Sleeve Gastrectomy▼
The Sleeve involves reducing the size of the stomach, which normally holds 5 cups, down to approximately 1-cup capacity. Using laparoscopic keyhole surgery under a general anaesthetic, the stomach is divided in two using surgical staplers, with the larger unwanted side removed. The removal of the unwanted side results in a 65% reduction in the amount of the hunger hormone Ghrelin.
Gastric Bypassmost patients lose 60-80% of their excess weight▼
Gastric Bypass is a combined restrictive/metabolic surgical procedure. A small stomach pouch is created by dividing the stomach into two using surgical staplers along the upper part of the stomach. The bottom of the pouch is then joined to the small intestine using sutures to allow food to exit the pouch, resulting in a small stomach and diverting food away from the top 1-2 metres of the small intestine.
Laparoscopic Fundoplication (Reflux/Hiatus Hernia)▼
A minimally invasive surgery for GORD and hiatus hernia that involves wrapping the top of the stomach around the lower oesophagus to improve the function of the reflux valve. The Toupet Fundoplication uses a partial wrap to minimize side effects while providing excellent reflux control.
Gallbladder Removal (Cholecystectomy)▼
Cholecystectomy is performed using laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery with four small incisions. The procedure takes about one hour under general anaesthesia. The gallbladder is retracted, and the cystic duct and artery are clipped and divided to remove the organ.
