Procedure Information

Gastric Sleeve

Gastric Sleeve Surgery (Sleeve Gastrectomy) is one of the most commonly performed bariatric procedures worldwide. The surgery removes around 75–80% of the stomach, creating a smaller sleeve-shaped stomach that limits food intake and reduces hunger hormones. This procedure provides effective long-term weight loss and metabolic improvement for many patients.

Hospital stay: 1-2 nights
Single Loop Gastric Bypass

Single Loop Gastric Bypass (also known as Mini Gastric Bypass or Omega Loop Gastric Bypass) combines stomach restriction with a bypass of part of the small intestine, helping reduce calorie absorption while limiting food intake. This procedure may be recommended for patients who require greater weight loss or improved metabolic outcomes.

Hospital stay: 1-2 nights
SADI-S

SADI-S (Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve) is a more complex bariatric procedure that combines a sleeve gastrectomy with intestinal bypass to achieve powerful metabolic effects. It may be recommended for patients with severe obesity or metabolic disease.

Revision Bariatric Surgery
Varies depending on the original procedure and revision type

Revision Bariatric Surgery may be recommended for patients who have previously undergone weight loss surgery but have experienced weight regain, complications or insufficient weight loss. Revision procedures may convert one bariatric procedure to another to improve long-term outcomes.

Hospital stay: 1-2 nights
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is a well-established bariatric procedure that creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes part of the small intestine. This changes how food is digested and absorbed, helping support significant weight loss and improvements in obesity-related health conditions.

Lap Band Removal

Gastric Band Removal, also known as Lap Band Removal, is the surgical removal of a Lap Band device inserted as part of a standard Gastric Band surgery procedure. In addition, scar tissue is removed during the procedure and normal stomach anatomy is restored.

Hospital stay: 1 nightRecovery: 1-3 weeks

Frequently Asked Questions

What BMI do I need for surgery?
Many patients qualify with a BMI of 35 or above, or 30-34 with certain health conditions. A consultation can help determine eligibility. Patients can get Weight Loss Surgery in Australia if they are considered obese, have tried other weight loss programs with little success and/or have been diagnosed with obesity-related medical conditions. As a guideline, this means patients with a body mass index (BMI) over 35, or a BMI of 30-34 for patients with weight-related health issues. However, each...
Is bariatric surgery safe?
Modern bariatric procedures are widely performed and considered safe when undertaken by experienced surgeons in accredited hospitals.
What bariatric surgery option is best for me?
Deciding which Weight Loss Surgery procedure is best for you will depend on factors such as your BMI, age, gender, exercise, overall health and smoking habits, and weight loss goals. Choosing the best Weight Loss Surgery in Sydney is a complex decision with many factors to consider. BodyFree provides in-depth advice and consultations with Surgeons and Dietitians, to help you make a life-changing decision that benefits your health. Your relevant health conditions will be taken into...

Recovery times vary depending on the procedure and individual health factors, but most patients return to normal daily activities within a few weeks.
What are the weight loss surgery costs?
BodyFree offers a fixed-fee, all-inclusive programs for Weight Loss Surgery in Sydney. This varies according to whether the patient has private health insurance or not, and whether this is the first Bariatric surgery or revision surgery. What if I don't have private health insurance?
Self-funded options may be available through fixed-fee surgery programs. You may also be eligible to use your superannuation.
Do you offer endoscopic weight loss surgery procedures?
Our clinic does not offer endoscopic weight loss surgery procedures, such as the Gastric Balloon, however we have included some general information about these options. Endoscopic procedures generally offer short term weight loss outcomes without any medium to long term results shown.
Do you replace Gastric Bands?
While we do offer a surgical procedure to remove Gastric Bands (Lap Bands), with or without revising to a Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass, we do not provide surgery to place them into the body. Our bariatric surgeons have found that patients who have had a Gastric Band placed encounter more post operative concerns and problems and also have inconsistent results when compared to the newer weight loss surgery procedures (Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Bypass).
