Gastric Sleeve, also referred to as vertical sleeve, sleeve gastrectomy or tube gastrectomy, is a combined restrictive and metabolic type of weight loss surgery. The size of the stomach is reduced with 75% of the stomach removed and thereby decreasing its storage capacity. There are also hormonal changes occurring through removal of most of the section of the stomach that produces hunger hormones and the increased speed of food being delivered to the latter part of small bowel.

Gastric bypass, also known as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, involves creating a small pouch at the top of the stomach and bypassing the flow of food away from the first part of the small intestine and directly to the middle part of the small intestine. It is primarily a restrictive and metabolic procedure with a mildly malabsorptive component. The weight loss effect is primarily achieved through limiting the amount of food stored in the small pouch and the hormonal changes that occur through diverting food away from the first part of the small bowel.

Gastric Banding, commonly referred to as Lap Band surgery, is a type of minimally invasive weight-loss surgery that involves wrapping a band around a part of the stomach. It is a purely restrictive procedure as the storage size and outlet of the stomach is restricted by the band. The food intake is restricted or limited by the constricting outlet effect of the adjustable band.

Gastric balloon, also called endoscopic intragastric balloon, is a non-surgical weight-loss procedure that involves the insertion of a specialised balloon inside the stomach to occupy space.

Bariatric surgery is a successful tool to combat obesity and weight gain. However, some patients may need a secondary or revision procedure to address problems that occur or to achieve their desired results.
