Procedure Information

Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y)
up to 85% of excess weight; about 25–35% of total body weight

The Roux-en-Y or Double Join Gastric Bypass Surgery is a gold standard operation. It helps patients achieve weight loss by decreasing the volume that the stomach can hold and diverting food away from the part of the bowel that absorbs fat. Your stomach will hold less food, you'll eat less and your body cannot absorb ALL of the calories that you consume.

Hospital stay: 4 nightsRecovery: 2 weeks of convalescence (initial healing and recovery)
Gastric Sleeve (Sleeve Gastrectomy)
70% of excess weight; about 25–30% of total body weight; around 60–70% of excess weight

The sleeve gastrectomy decreases hunger and meal size by reducing the size of the stomach. About two-thirds of the stomach is permanently removed, creating a small sleeve shaped stomach about the size of a banana. It removes most of the stomach, reducing hunger hormones and making you feel full with small meals.

Hospital stay: 2–3 daysRecovery: 2–4 weeks gradual return to normal activities
Mini Gastric Bypass (OAGB)
About 30–40% of total body weight

Restricts the amount of food that can be eaten and alters the gut hormones involved in appetite control. Creates a smaller stomach pouch and bypasses part of the intestine, reducing food intake and absorption.

Gastric/Lap Banding
50 to 60% of excess weight

Restricts and controls portion size while having a profound effect on reducing hunger. The adjustable Gastric Banding Procedure uses a restrictive device and requires no cutting, stapling or removal of any part of the stomach. Instead, a band is placed around the stomach to limit the amount of food it can hold.

Revision Weight Loss Surgery

Revision surgery is available when a previous weight loss procedure such as Gastric Band or Gastric Sleeve operation failed to result in adequate weight loss for the patient.
