Gastric Sleeve (Lap Gastric Sleeve / Gastrectomy)▼
The operation is performed by key hole surgery and removes around 60% of the stomach using a stapler. This creates a small residual stomach and satiety is achieved through small portions. This procedure is the most common weight loss surgery performed in Australia in 2020 - 2023.
Gastric Band (Lap Gastric Band / MIDBAND™)▼
The MIDBAND™ is placed around the upper part of the stomach. Following band placement, in conjunction with band adjustment (inflation or 'fill'), a resulting constriction of the stomach is achieved at the level of band placement. This constriction slows the passage of food to the stomach below - in the same way as sand flows through an hourglass. Above the area of band placement a small 'pouch' is formed and it is thought that for this reason the person with a well adjusted gastric band is less likely to experience the sensation of hunger.

Results
A relatively small weight loss (5-10%) can result in significant metabolic and cardiovascular health benefits.
