Procedure Information

Gastric Sleeve (Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy)

A minimally invasive weight loss surgery that reduces the stomach size by 75-80%, transforming it into a narrow, 'sleeve-like' shape. It encourages weight loss by restricting the stomach size, so it holds only a limited amount of food. It is the most popular and commonly done weight loss surgery performed for the treatment of obesity due to its effectiveness, lower risk compared to gastric bypass, and metabolic health benefits.

Hospital stay: 1-2 nights stay in hospital
Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass

A type of weight loss surgery which combines two types of procedure. First, it involves reducing the size of the stomach to promote early fullness and second, by bypassing a segment of the small intestine to limit food absorption. A small pouch is created by stapling around the upper part of the stomach, which is then connected directly to the small intestine.

Hospital stay: a day or two in the hospital
Mini Gastric Bypass (Single Anastomosis Gastric Bypass / One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass)

A modification of the Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass whereby only one connection or anastomosis is performed. This makes the procedure simpler, reduces operating time and minimises complications. Studies have shown that the weight loss achieved is similar to Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass with lower complications.

Bariatric Revision Surgery

A secondary or revision procedure to address problems that occur after initial bariatric surgery or to achieve desired weight loss goals. Indications include inadequate weight loss, weight regain, persistent obesity-related illness, and complications after weight loss surgery.

Gastric Band (Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding / Lap-Band)

A type of minimally invasive weight-loss surgery that involves wrapping an adjustable, inflatable silicone band around a part of the stomach to reduce its size and limit the capacity of food intake. The band divides the stomach into a small upper pouch and a larger lower pouch. The upper pouch fills up quickly giving a feeling of fullness. It does not involve cutting or stapling of the stomach.

Hospital stay: about 2-3 days
