The sleeve gastrectomy is a type of weight loss surgery that involves removing the outer (lateral) 3/4ths of the stomach. The gastric sleeve surgery is usually done laparoscopically (keyhole surgery) and is not reversible. It basically leaves a stomach sleeve (tube) instead of a stomach sack.
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass60-70% EWL over 2 years▼
When we do the Gastric Bypass surgery, Roux en-Y, we want to make a very small pouch out of the upper stomach, to restrict the amount of food which can be eaten. That pouch is separated from the rest of the stomach, which is bypassed, by creating a new pathway into the intestines. This pathway is called a "Roux en-Y".
