About Dr Mark Daoud
Dr Daoud is one of Australia's most experienced Bariatric Surgeons.
- We approach such a disease with a multi-disciplinary team that includes an obesity physician, practice coordinator, dietician, exercise physiologist, psychologist and an experienced bariatric surgeon. After a thorough first consultation, our patients are offered the procedure they need – rather than taking the approach of one procedure fits all. The most important aspect in managing this condition is to have an understanding of the patients eating habits and any underlying emotional, behavioural and endocrine disorders, which can be diagnosed through our extensive initial consultation with our different disciplines. As we believe that follow up is the corner stone for long term success, we offer indefinite follow up on a bulk-billing bases, as such we eliminate the cost barrier for the patient to achieve the best results for them.

Procedure Information
Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy60-70% EWL over two years▼
The sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive procedure also known as a vertical partial gastrectomy. In this operation 2/3 of the stomach will be removed, which gives the patient a sense of fullness with only a small amount of food. It also removes the upper part of the stomach, which secretes an enzyme called Ghrelin that controls appetite. The residual stomach capacity is about 200mls. It can be done laparoscopically but is not reversible.
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass▼
Gastric bypass surgery assists the patient in losing weight because they eat less and their body absorbs less of what has been eaten. A small pouch is created at the top of the stomach to make it smaller via stapling or a plastic band. This new smaller part of the stomach is then connected into the middle part of the small intestine, bypassing the majority of the stomach and the upper part of the small intestine.
Revisional Surgery▼
Revision bariatric surgery refers to a weight loss treatment that follows a previous weight loss surgery that did not lead to the desired level of success. No matter what bariatric procedure was tried the first time, or what surgeon was involved, the team evaluates medical history, reasons for weight regain, lifestyle, and treatment preference to determine the best revisional approach.
