Procedure Information
Sleeve Gastrectomy▼
Sleeve gastrectomy is now the most common operation performed for obesity in Australia. Basically, it is a simple reduction in the volume of the stomach which induces satiety (hunger satisfaction) with greatly reduced food volume. Over 1500 Sleeve gastrectomy procedures performed since 2006.
Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y)▼
Laparoscopic (keyhole) gastric bypass reduces stomach size and reduces the absorption of food in the small intestine. It is considered the "gold standard" obesity operation and is particularly effective for patients with Type 2 diabetes. Performed since 2009.
Allurion Balloonaverage of 10-15% body weight in 16 weeks▼
The Allurion balloon is a "swallowable" intragastric balloon which doesn't require surgery, endoscopy or anaesthesia. A capsule that contains the Allurion Balloon is swallowed during a 20 minute walk-in procedure and then inflated with liquid. 16 weeks after placement, the Allurion Balloon self empties and passes naturally.
Revisional Surgery▼
If you have already had an operation for weight control such as a gastric band and it isn't working as you had hoped, the team has extensive experience in revisional surgery (converting one surgery to another). Expertise is offered both to own patients and those who have had operations with other surgeons.
Intragastric Balloon▼
The intragastric balloon is designed to be inserted into the stomach and inflated to a volume which will restrict the amount you can eat and reduce hunger. This is a temporary procedure which can cause modest weight loss.
LapBand Surgery▼
Over 4,000 laparoscopic gastric banding operations performed. In common with Surgeons in Australia and overseas this is usually not offered as a first option but remains available for discussion.
SADI▼
The Single Anastomosis Duodeno–Ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI) is a newer procedure which combines a sleeve gastrectomy and a bypass of the small intestine from the duodenum leaving between 2.5 and 3 metres of small bowel to absorb food. It is a powerful weight loss procedure, based on an older procedure that has been modified to reduce the risk of complications from malnutrition.
One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB)▼
The One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) is a modern weight loss surgery designed to help you eat less, absorb fewer calories, and feel satisfied sooner. By combining restriction and rerouting of your digestive tract, it can deliver significant and sustained weight loss.
Mini Gastric Bypass▼
The 'Mini Gastric Bypass' or One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass is a simplified version of the Standard Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass that has become popular due to its reduction in technical difficulty and operating time. A new, small stomach is made which is joined to the small intestine bypassing 1.5 to 2 metres of small intestine without dividing the bowel.
Non-surgical Weight Loss▼
Lifestyle change is the first line in the treatment of obesity. The team of dietitians, doctors, psychologists, exercise professionals and nurses can work together to help you make changes to your lifestyle, environment and thinking to get you on the right track to reach your goals.
Patient Testimonials
“…Prior to this I have always dreaded seeing a dietician but Cassie is such a calming presence, her philosophy is realistic and about living a healthy life rather than dieting.”
